Actually, that's not quite accurate. We don't know what would have happened if my father hadn't taken a gun along on a camping trip in Mexico about 50 years ago.
He took my mother and my brother & me camping in Baja. Took his gun along "just in case", a hand-gun.
As it turned out, there campsite was approached by a group of Mexican men. I was about 2 and have not heard all of the details of the story, except that my father got the gun and stood there holding it in his hand, watching the Mexican men approach.
And then watched them turn around and walk away.
So I don't know if they were saved from robbery, rape, and/ or murder.
All I know is, my father made a VERY, VERY good move when he chose to bring an illegal firearm on our Mexican camping trip many moons ago.
