Republican proposal would shield info of some gun owners KGO) -- In California, new legislation has been announced to protect the privacy of citizens who choose to legally own a firearm. It comes after a journalist last month published the names and addresses of thousands of New Yorkers with gun permits. California already has an assault weapons ban and a 10-round capacity limit on ammunition. The Brady Campaign considers California as having the toughest gun control laws in the country. Still, the Newtown, Connecticut massacre is prompting lawmakers to propose measures that go further than President Obama's package of reforms. State Sen. Kevin DeLeon, D-Los Angeles, wants California to start doing background checks on people before they buy ammunition and require a permit to proceed with the sale.

Don't believe anything they say--They lie.

Here is an interesting re-cap regarding keeping "audit logs" of NCIS background checks:

" The regulation restricts use of the Audit Log. Information
"pertaining to allowed transfers may only be used by the FBI for the purpose of conducting audits of the use and perfor-mance of the NICS." 28 C.F.R. s 25.9(b)(2). The Audit Log "may not be used by any department, agency, officer, or employee of the United States to establish any system for the registration of firearms, firearm owners, or firearm transactions or dispositions. The Audit Log will be monitored and reviewed on a regular basis to detect any possible misuse of the NICS data." Id. . ."
