Yes, we need such a thread here as well.
Personally i'd go with a ruger mark II .22 with a a 6" tactical solutions upper
Why?
It's a proven design, i'ts accurate, it's cheap to shoot, lightweight, it will eat just about any type of .22lr ammunition, you can add a supressor, it doesn't require much maintenance - i've seen ruger mark series pistols run flawlessly with several thousand shoots through them without getting cleaned. The downside is that it can be a bitch to take apart when that time comes. The bolt system is also a big plus because it means you can put optics on top of the gun without it moving around.
Another factor for .22 is that the ammunition is easy to come by and weigh alot less than the most common centerfire rounds, so you can carry alot more of it... try carrying 1000 rounds of 9mm up in the woods. Standard velocity .22lr will in many cases be subsonic for pistols since the advertised velocity is for rifles, so you get the sneak factor when stalking your prey with a supressor using regular ammunition and not the overly expensive branded subsonic stuff which is a must have for centerfire pistols.
Im also sure you can if needed take down big game with a .22lr, just that it isnt optimal.
