When I got my most recent ID the Dept of Motor Vehicles revenue extraction agent commented that the facial recognition system they used did very poorly with bearded men, and that it wasn’t unusual to have it fail to approve the photo and require a manager override.

I’m sure software must vary, but it seems a beard helps keep computers from recognizing you.

Interesting information. Note to self. the wookie look might have some advantages.

I think my last mug shot was taken with a fish eye lens and I look very weird in it. I'm happy for the Govt to have that on file because I think it would be pretty difficult to ID me from it. Down side is it makes me look stupider than normal.

Caps won't help in court. They tell you to take them off. Now just because they tell you to do something doesn't mean you have to jump in and do it. Contract negotiations can be a bit intense sometimes and a bystander might not be able to tell the difference between a counter-offer and arguing. So now in court I just don't bother to have a cap. I believe William Penn had some discussion with the court regarding hats ... http://www.uscourts.gov/EducationalResources/ClassroomActivities/MockTrialOfWilliamPenn.aspx

They have not gotten to the point where they order you to take your sunglasses off though. So I have this huge set that I last wore to court about 10 days ago. I could see the bailiff look my way occasionally but he never raised the issue.
