Is it possible that the entire issue of gun control falls into the same genre of issues as does gay marriage?

I remember when George Bush was president, one of the big issues dominating election campaigns was gay marriage. And before that, there was abortion 'rights'. I never understood why these were political issues. I did understand however that Fox News wanted to keep these issues front and center in the discussions in the media. What I didn't know back then was that these issues were promoted by people like Carl Rove and Roger Ailes, and other Republican campaign strategists. These issues served one single purpose: to keep people distracted by discussing them rather than paying attention to the things that really mattered--like how their freedoms were being taken away, and how their rights were being ignored by an ever increasing government tyranny. The British Parliament just recently passed a law legalizing gay marriage--virtually without any discussion, and we are now hearing a backlash from traditional religious groups about how this law will destroy the institution of marriage. As far as I am concerned, this is not a political issue. Nor is abortion. These are personal choices.

And in the last few months I have been struggling with gun control. I understand the need people have to own guns to protect themselves. You don't want to show up at a gunfight with a knife. I understand asserting 2nd Amendment rights. If you don't assert your rights, you don't have them. And since Sandy Hook, Americans have bought more than 10 million guns of all sorts and put in orders that will keep manufacturers busy for another year or longer. The NRA increased their membership by 300,000 in the last two months. Obama poses shooting a shotgun to make himself look like he's pro-gun. Piers Morgan goes to a gun range in Texas to demonstrate his support for 2nd Amendment rights. Strange political maneuvering?

It's more like a calculated distraction. What are they doing while we're all getting heated up on one side or the other about gun control? Could it be that Obama has adopted the tactics of Carl Rove and Lee Atwater? While we're siting here consumed in the debate over a gun grab, is Obama avoiding having to talk about not prosecuting the banking fraudsters? Or about dismantling social security? Or drastically cutting back all entitlement programs? Or even his contemplation of nationalizing our tax deferred retirement plans which have a tempting 19 Trillion $ in them? What is Obama doing while we're hotly debating our inalienable right to own guns? Which more important political issues are we ignoring because we feel that our guns are the big issue? Is this a divide and conquer issue. Are we falling for it?

hot-button issue - an issue that elicits strong emotional reactions

Heavily politicized issues are often called "hot-button issues" because almost any position taken is sure to please one group of people and offend another.

The only reason why the afformentioned is still being skirted is because the 2nd Amendnent is still firmly in place and there are now more guns in america then people.

I asure you if the above was not in place we would be as ass backwards as jolly ole england.

This is the One issue that keeps tyranny in check and as each day goes by more and more people are coming to the point of non complience.

People with guns who are organized are far more likely to make a difference than sheeple with guns.
