The Vatican Radio website posted this statement (http://en.radiovaticana.va/articolo.asp?c=663815) from the Pope announcing his resignation from the papal office on Feb. 28:

Dear Brothers,

I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.

I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.

For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.

Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

Thanks for this message. It forced me to go back and figure it out. I think I can explain it now.

These key verses explain what was needed:

2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

The term "letteth" means holding down. The obstacle holding down this evil one- or blocking his advance, must be taken out of the way. A few decades ago, the rapture cult tried to make people believe that the Church would be raptured out of the world and the Holy Spirit would be removed. That is not what the words say.

But today we have a great falling away and no restraint for the evil ones.

Although it was often said that Celestine was the only pope to resign voluntarily (prior to Benedict XVI doing so in 2013), in fact, other popes have similarly abdicated of their own will. These are John XVIII in 1009 and Benedict IX in May 1045 (although he regretted it and was soon back). There was also Gregory XII in 1415 who agreed to quit at the request of the Council of Constance. Benedict XVI announced his resignation in February 2013.

Follow Me. This is the greatest challenge you will ever have to face but I will give you the Graces to discern the truth from the sacrilegious fiction you will be asked to accept in My Holy Name.

Today is the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, apostles of the beginnings of the Church — one to the Jews, the other to the nations. But the times remind one of a man who took the name “Celestine” when he became Pope, a name never chosen again…
“I resign the papacy out of the desire for humility, for a purer life, for a stainless conscience, the deficiencies of my own physical strength, my ignorance, the perverseness of the people, my longing for the tranquility of my former life.” –Pope St. Celestine V (1209-1296), also known as Pietro da Marrone, the only Pope in history to resign the papacy, giving the reasons for his resignation on December 13, 1294 after only five months as Pope. He lived another year and a half, kept in prison by his successor, Boniface VIII (the quote above is slightly paraphrased to put it into the first person)
“I saw and recognized the shade of him who by his cowardice made the great refusal” –Dante, Inferno, III, 59–60; many scholars believe Dante is referring to Celestine V, placing him in Hell because Dante felt Celestine had acted in a cowardly way by resigning rather than facing and fighting the forces of evil in the Church)

A Mystery in Plain Sight

Today in Rome, on the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, Pope Benedict XVI gave a remarkable homily in which he mentions the threats that will come against the Church in the “last days.”
This homily must be read in part as Benedict’s commentary on the sexual abuse crisis and the increasing pressure being placed on the Church by secular judicial and law enforcement authorities. (see below)
The homily thus provides a deep insight into Benedict’s mind at this troubled moment in his pontificate.
The feast in Rome on June 29 each year is the feast in which the Pope places the “pallium,” a cloth made of wool, upon the shoulders of archbishops from around the world chosen during the past year as a sign that they are “linked” or “yoked” to the universal Church, to Rome, and to the person of the Pope.
In his homily, the Pope speaks of the “liberty of the Church” and says this liberty is protected by the strength of the union between the bishops around the world and the bishop of Rome, the Pope.

A little more than a year ago, on April 29, 2009, Benedict did something unusual. He left his own “pallium,” the sign of his episcopal authority and his connection to Christ, on a tomb in Aquila, Italy. The tomb held the remains of a relatively obscure medieval Pope named was Celestine V (1209-1296).
Why?

This resembles the pallium worn by the the figure of Celestine in his shrine which is a short pallium with black crosses over an elaborate Roman chasuble.)
Celestine was a holy monk. His model was John the Baptist. His wore hair-cloth and a chain of iron. He fasted every day except Sunday and each year he kept four Lents on bread and water alone. Many kindred spirits gathered about him eager to imitate his rule of life, and before his death there were 36 monasteries, numbering 600 religious, bearing his papal name (Celestini).
But he was not just a monk.
He was elected Pope in 1294, a time of great corruption and contention in the Church, after a conclave deadlocked for more than two years. He was elected at about the age of 80 (Benedict was 78 when he was elected Pope in 2005).
At Celestine’s election, some of the Spiritual Franciscans, who opposed the worldliness of the Church hierarchy, proclaimed that he was the first legitimate Pope in nearly 1,000 years, since Constantine had granted the Church huge territorial possessions in the 300s.
So the Church had a holy leader, and many devout Catholics at that time thought the Church would be reformed by this good man.

The cardinals of 700 years ago seem to have chosen Celestine almost humorously, as it were, not seriously, as if to say, “We can’t agree on a serious ‘Prince-Cardinal’ for Pope, so we will choose this holy, quiet, learned monk to be Pope, and watch with a certain amusement as he struggles mightily but in vain to guide the ungovernable bark of Peter.”
After five months, Celestine gave up, and resigned — the only Pope who has ever done so.
He thought he would end his life in peace, but his successor, Boniface VIII, fearing his opponents might use Celestine as a rallying point, ordered him confined, and some allege (probably wrongly, since he was already approaching 90), executed.
All of Celestine’s official acts were annulled by Boniface.
Now, Benedict is scheduled to travel this Sunday, on July 4, to Sulmona, not far from Rome. There, in the crypt of the cathedral, as the last act of his visit, he is scheduled to venerate relics of this same holy Pope, Celestine V. (See bottom for a news report on this upcoming trip.)
So Sunday, the Pope will pray before Celestine’s relics for the second time in 15 months.
I am not suggesting Pope Benedict XVI is thinking of following in the footsteps of the saintly Pope Celestine and resigning.
I am suggesting that the studious Pope Benedict and the studious monk-Pope are “connected” in a mysterious way.
I believe Benedict’s decisions to leave his pallium in Aquila, where Celestine’s tomb is located, and to schedule a prayer before his relics this coming Sunday, are not haphazard.
These decisions are indicators, ways of communicating truths through gestures. They contain a message the Pope cannot deliver any other way...

It’s “cash only” now for tourists at the Vatican wanting to pay for museum tickets, souvenirs and other services after Italy’s central bank decided to block electronic payments, including credit cards, at the tiny city-state.
Deutsche Bank Italia, which for some 15 years had provided the Vatican with electronic payment services, said Thursday that the Bank of Italy had pulled its authorization after Dec. 31.
The Corriere della Sera newspaper reported that the Italian central bank took the action because the Holy See has not yet fully complied with European Union safeguards against money laundering. That means Italian banks are not authorized to operate within the Vatican, which is in the process of improving its mechanisms to combat laundering.
The Vatican says it is scrambling to solve the problem for thousands of visitors who flock to its very popular Vatican Museums, which include highlights like the Sistine Chapel. The Holy See had no immediate comment on the Bank of Italy’s reported reasons.
Tourists in the long lines Thursday that snaked around Vatican City walls were not happy about the inconvenience.
“It’s certainly a disadvantage,” said Giuseppe Amoruso, an Italian. “Credit cards provide a useful service, which needs to be accessible to everybody, everywhere.”
“A lot of tourists don’t have cash on them, so they have to get euros and don’t know where to get them,” said Fluger William Hunter, an American tourist.
The central bank said a routine inspection found that Deutsche Bank Italia hadn’t sought authorization when it first started providing services at the Vatican. When it finally did, the Bank of Italy turned it down because the Vatican’s banking norms, including measures to combat money laundering, didn’t meet Italy’s more stringent criteria of recent years, a central bank official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because there was no official statement on the case.
The Vatican has been striving to upgrade its measures to detect and discourage money laundering, hiring a Swiss expert just a few months ago. Last summer, the Holy See passed a key European financial transparency test but received failing grades for its financial watchdog agency and its bank, formally called the Institute for Religious Works.
The museums, with their entrance fees and popular souvenir shops, are a big money-maker for the Vatican. Other Vatican attractions, such as tours of the Vatican’s ancient underground spaces, also charge admission.

Approximately 900 years ago, Pope Innocent II summoned Saint Malachy, a popular archbishop, to Rome to update the Vatican on the status of Malachy's Northern Ireland diocese. Malachy made the arduous journey from Northern Ireland to Italy and gave his full report.
As he was leaving Rome to return to his church he had what he described as a “frenzied vision.” In this vision, Malachy was given the descriptive information of every pope that would ever exist, beginning with Pope Innocent II all the way to the final pope, Pope Petrus Romanus.

The world did not end on December 21, 2012.

For ancient Israelites to say "seven years" it must last more than six but less than seven full years. That means the tribulation starts very soon in 2013. The Maya believed this point in time would mark the end of the world as we know it and the transition to a new world. They viewed the transitional years from 12/21/2012-12/21/2019 as the first years of the new system of things in the next world, while the Bible describes these transitional years as the last years of the world we know now. After completing my research, I must conclude that December 21, 2012 is the *official* start of the seven year tribulation, with world-changing events starting in early 2013 and Judgment Day at the end of 2019. "During his period (as pope) there were the best relations ever between the church and the chief rabbinate and we hope that this trend will continue," a spokesman quoted Metzger as saying after the pope announced he would resign. "I think he deserves a lot of credit for advancing inter-religious links the world over between Judaism, Christianity and Islam."

First of all, let's put to rest, the fallacy that "looming scandals" about child rape and coverup are behind Joseph Ratzinger's resignation. That's just the cover story.

Nobody in the church hierarchy is losing sleep over their standing, canon-law endorsed policy of concealing and protecting child rapists in their ranks. Even the International Criminal Court application about such crimes has been stymied by catholic-run legislators and jurists.

What sounded the death knell on Pope Benedict was his personal involvement in the bribery and money-laundering practices of the Vatican Bank, comically known as The Institute of Religious Works (IOR). That dirty connection gave the anti-Ratzinger faction in the College of Cardinals the needed leverage to dump the obstinate German from the papal throne.

We had a whiff of that dump-Rat Boy agenda last year, when "Vatileaks" broke a ludicrous story of how Ratzinger's loyal butler Paolo Gabriele disclosed the pope's dirty secrets to the Italian media.

In fact, the damning documents detailing Ratzinger's secret rewarding of Vatican contracts to his friends and family members originated in the Vatican Secretary of State's office, which the fall-guy butler could not have had access to.

The Secretary of State and the real power behind the papacy is Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, an old insider who also engineered the sacking of Gotti Tedeschi, head of the Vatican Bank, last May.

Tedeschi had embraced the call of the European Parliament for "greater transparency" by the Vatican Bank /IOR, and was about to disclose to Brussels how his bosses had been laundering money for the mob for decades. The last Pope who had tried such a disclosure, John Paul 1, died from poisoning in September, 1978 after less than a month in office.

But even with Tedeschi silenced, the IOR house of cards kept tumbling, as the European Parliament seized from it 300 million Euros fraudulently acquired. Even the American Securities and Exchange Commission declared the IOR's assets and practices "insecure". A major Vatican housecleaning was required; or at least, the appearance of one.

It was the pivotal Cardinal Bertone who leaked the pope's diary and other incriminating papers to a catholic-friendly journalist in Rome last year (the same month that Tedeschi was sacked,) to prepare the world for Ratzinger's removal. For it is Bertone who is now reaping the benefits of the papal housecleaning. He is not only a primary contender for the pope's position but a key player in the IOR.

During my second speaking tour in Rome, in the spring of 2010, I met with several senior Italian senators and officials of the parliamentary Radical Party. They all said the same thing about why Joseph Ratzinger had been made pope, and what awaited him. To quote one of these politicians,

"Nobody becomes pope without a sordid past, because only with such liabilities can he be controlled by the Curia. It's the same in any big company. Well, Ratzinger made many indiscretions as a Cardinal and made many enemies. His signing letters ordering criminal concealment was just one sin. He was to be the scapegoat for all of the trash that the church knew would surface"

So now, the papal scapegoat is gone, pensioned off to wherever ex-popes end up; and the time for the big face-saving lie has arrived.

Putting lipstick on a decaying facade like the Church of Rome reminds me of Shirley MacLaine trying to look forty at the age of ninety. And yet appearances are everything in show business as well as in religion.

Tarcisio Bertone represents the old Italian crowd of the Curia, who are part of the Mob-government-papal clique that run the country and the Roman Catholic church. In the words of one of the Roman Senators I spoke with,

"You must understand that in my country, the Mafia and the government and the Vatican are all the same people, and they really have only one concern: protecting their assets."

Bertone, or whoever from the ranks of his victorious faction does assume the papal tiria, cannot be expected to do much but maintain the assets and security of the church, and that means continuing the policies of silence and dissimulation that keeps the cash flowing. But their position is more difficult now in the wake of the enormous rifts developing within the wider church, where Cardinals are facing criminal prosecution for shielding child rapists, and talk of disaffiliating from Rome is widespread among Irish, American and German Bishops.

"We have all the grounds for a second Reformation now. That's how serious is the crisis. The church will either rid itself of itself or face collapse" said an Italian media commentator recently.

It was easy to despise Joseph Ratzinger: the Hitler Youth-raised, reactionary bigot who sacked liberal and independent thinkers in his church as the Cardinal-head of the Vatican Inquisition, and who told American Bishops that purgatory awaited any of them who did not cover up priestly child rape. Even among fellow Cardinals, he was known as "Joe the Rat".

But Ratzinger was a made to order object-of-hatred, and put there to play out the oldest game in politics: the venting of popular rage on a disposable figurehead so that the institution itself could proceed unscathed.

I doubt that it's coincidental that Ratzinger was forced out of office so quickly barely ten days after our Common Law court published online hard evidence of the Pope's involvement in crimes against humanity. Any new Pope will face the same charges, of colluding in a massive criminal conspiracy.

But the real issue is not who or what will replace Joseph Ratzinger, but how to displace the Vatican itself as a criminal power unto itself. And that struggle is just commencing.

A lot of bets were placed last year that Benedict XVI would be gone in 2012 so the last Pope could be seated before December 21st. Rumors that Bertone's election is a done deal because of his power with the Curia and the Italian faction may be overstated. Of 120 cardinal electors, only 28 are Italians, and nearly half are Hispanic, African and various Asian and others.

Yes who the hell has given the globalists any right to judge anyone? Certainly the case against child abuse in catholic church is a worthy one, but I can't see any reason why it can't be handled by legislation in the countries where it occurred? Most countries have existing legislation making pedophilia a criminal offence, with supposedly no perpetrator above the law. Sure it may be a stretch to convict Ratzinger as an accomplish, in most countries, but if he is guilty, shouldn't he get eternity in Inferno anyway quite soon? I see nothing positive in creating a globalist court for his punishment. That will be more of a devil than Ratzinger or anyone else...

About Background and Rationale
The abuse, trafficking, torture and murder of children appears endemic to European culture, and continues to be actively practiced, and condoned and protected, by church, state, judicial and police forces around the globe.

Certainly the case against child abuse in catholic church is a worthy one, but I can't see any reason why it can't be handled by legislation in the countries where it occurred? Most countries have existing legislation making pedophilia a criminal offence, with supposedly no perpetrator above the law. Sure it may be a stretch to convict Ratzinger as an accomplish, in most countries, but if he is guilty, shouldn't he get eternity in Inferno anyway quite soon? I see nothing positive in creating a globalist court for his punishment. That will be more of a devil than Ratzinger or anyone else...

Pope Benedict, Joseph Ratzinger, has scheduled a meeting with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano for Saturday, February 23 to discuss securing protection and immunity from prosecution from the Italian government, according to Italian media sources.
Ratzinger’s meeting follows upon the apparent receipt by the Vatican of a diplomatic note from an undisclosed European government on February 4, stating its intention to issue an arrest warrant for Ratzinger, who resigned from his pontificate less than a week later.
In response to the February 23 meeting, the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State (ITCCS), through its field Secretary, Rev. Kevin Annett, has written to President Napolitano, asking him to refrain from assisting Ratzinger in evading justice.

These actions will accompany the legal efforts to bring Joseph Ratzinger and other Vatican officials to trial for their proven complicity in crimes against humanity and criminal conspiracy.

On behalf of our Tribunal and people of conscience everywhere, and of the millions of victims of church abuse, I am making an appeal to you regarding your upcoming meeting with Joseph Ratzinger, who will retire soon as Pope Benedict, the Pontiff of the Church of Rome.

The need for you to abide by international law and not be seen to collude with Joseph Ratzinger is even more true when one considers the enormity of the crimes of which the Vatican and its highest officials are clearly guilty, according to considerable evidence gathered and documented by our Tribunal and other groups, and acknowledged by many governments.
In Canada alone, the Roman Catholic Church and its Vatican agents have been found guilty of responsibility for genocide and the deaths of at least 50,000 aboriginal child children in the Jesuit-initiated Indian residential school system, that operated until 1996.
In Ireland, more than 10,000 women suffered and were exploited in the Catholic-run Magdalene Laundries, where many of them died. Similar church-run institutions all over the world have caused enormous mortality, disease and ruination for millions of children. And yet the church has never been held accountable or prosecuted for these deaths and the theft of enormous wealth from entire nations.
With the recent initiative of at least one European government and a host of lawyers to bring Joseph Ratzinger and other church officials to trial for these crimes, we feel it is incumbent on you neither to assist nor to be seen to assist or condone the attempt by him to evade, obstruct or delay justice, lest you open yourself to a charge of being an accessory to a crime.
On behalf of our Tribunal and of many people who cannot speak, I call on you to stand on the law of nations and humanity, and offer no support or protection to Joseph Ratzinger or his accessories in their efforts to evade responsibility for their proven crimes.
I look forward to your reply, and to discussing this with you more when I visit your country in May with a human rights delegation to investigate this matter more closely.

This startling admission of guilt by the church is also a direct obstruction of justice, and lends more weight to the charge by the ITCCS and others that the Vatican has arranged with the Italian government to shield Ratzinger from criminal prosecution, in violation of international laws ratified by Italy.
Commentary
The Vatican decided today to give permanent sanctuary to a proven war criminal by allowing Joseph Ratzinger to obstruct justice and evade prosecution for crimes against humanity. And the government of Italy is colluding in this abrogation of international law.
This decision validates our claims about the criminal conspiracy surrounding Ratzinger and his Vatican co-conspirators. It also makes it clear that the Vatican is a rogue power that is flaunting every law to conceal its own criminality.
In response, the ITCCS calls upon its affiliates and all people of conscience to use our upcoming Easter Reclamation Campaign to converge on Rome and the Vatican to force the extradition of Ratzinger from Vatican City, and place him and his accessories on trial for crimes against humanity.

"But then," I said, "you still did not really know if this was really a factor in the Pope's decision to resign. Or did you?"

"How?"

"Because of the entire context, because of the dates, because tof the way everything unfolded. The Pope is the head of the Curia, and depends on the Curia, but last year it happened that papers were stolen from his very desk. His entire work was undermined. And so he asked the commission of three cardinals to investigate into the Curia, and they did so, for many months. Then, when they submitted their results, only seven weeks passed by before the Pope resigned. Of course, we cannot say that the report alone prompted the resignation. The Pope has an awareness of the situation of the Church throughout the world, going far beyond the Curia. But I think we have to say that the report played a role in the resignation decision."

"But you don't actually know that the Pope was shocked by the report..."

"Well, I wrote 'forse' ('perhaps')," Ignazio said. "Perhaps the part of the report that most shocked the Pope was the one that brought to light the existence of a network of friendships and of blackmailings against a background of homosexuality, which is very present in some sectors of the Curia..."

"Ok, I see," I said. "By saying 'forse' you took your distance from that assertion..." I paused. "And in the last part of the sentence, where you say homosexuality is 'very present' in 'some sectors' of the Curia?"

"That emerged from conversations with witnesses. It is what they told the commission of cardinals."

Our time was nearly up. We sipped our coffee and I ate my cornetto.

"Tell me a little about yourself," I said. "Panorama is a secular magazine, generally anti-clerical. Are you a Catholic?"

"I'm a Catholic, born in Rome, raised in Rome," he said. "I'm married and I have two children, eight years old and six years old. I believe in the importance of the spiritual dimension, of the sacred. And I love the Church. But I also love the truth. In everything I write, that is my goal, my only goal: the truth."

"What about the decision to promote Balestrero to be nuncio in Colombia?"

"Well, they say it wasn't a sudden decision, that it took some weeks, that the government of Colombia had to be informed and to accept the nomination. But there is no doubt that the appointment was in some ways not in keeping with ordinary Church procedures. Normally, a Vatican monsignor has a certain development in his career, according to a rather precise time-table: first one or two minor assignments abroad, five year in Africa, five years in Latin America, then five years in Rome, sometimes more, and then a major assignment, like becoming a nuncio. But he was moved at least two years early. This is, in any case, a bit unusual."

"One thing I really like about you article," I said, "was the last sentence. You write: 'But for the majority of the electors, it is already clear that from the Sistine Chapel must exit a Pope who cannot be blackmailed so that he can proceed to that action of purification that Ratzinger has entrusted to his successor.' "His story was ultimately based on the work of an Italian priest, don Ariel S. Levi di Gualdo, who came out with an explosive book last year on this subject. That's the real source of this story. They say that all the cardinals received copies of his book, even Cardinal Herranz, the head of the commission of three cardinals which prepared the secret dossier given to the Pope on December 17."

I don't think these guys are worried so much if someone finds out they might be gay. People are just going to believe what they want to believe, and life will move on just the same.

Most of the world wouldn't even care all that much enough for it to force the issue. I think it goes deeper than that. I bet there's a ring operating, and certain elements are getting removed from potential questioning because they're gonna save their own butt over keeping the secret.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis says he has thought about when it might be time to "take leave" of his flock.

Francis made the comment during his morning homily Tuesday; the Vatican didn't release the full text.

Francis was reflecting on St. Paul discerning when to leave his flock in the care of others, a decision Francis said all bishops must make.

He said: "When I read this, I think about myself, because I'm a bishop and I'll have to take my leave."

Francis has said retired Pope Benedict XVI "opened a door" to future popes by resigning. While the 81-year-old pope has said he didn't envisage a long papacy, he hasn't said explicitly if he'd retire.

Francis may have also been referring to Chilean bishops implicated in a sex abuse cover-up scandal.

NY Bishop Claims Age of Consent Should be 7 Years Old
A New York Catholic bishop has claimed that pedophile priests shouldn’t be held responsible if they rape children aged 7 and over as he believes that young boys are “culpable” for their own actions.

Bishop Robert Cunningham of the diocese of Syracuse, NY stated that priests have been wrongly accused of sexual abuse against young boys for centuries saying that “at 7-years-old, children know what they’re doing, so it isn’t rape”.

Bishop Cunningham made the shocking statements in his testimony, that was recently released, during a deposition in a federal lawsuit for mass child abuse by pedophile priests.

Counter Current News reports: Charles Bailey, a survivor of a priest’s abuse, asked then-Bishop James Moynihan whether the church held children victims partly responsible for sexual abuse by priests.

“(Bishop) Moynihan said that right to my face – ‘The age of reason is 7, so if you’re at least 7 you’re culpable for your actions.’ That kind of floored me,” said Bailey.

Obviously, the sentiment isn’t something one Bishop believes, but a broader excuse used to cover the guilt of sexual predators.

The “age of reason” may be seven years old, but that in no way makes it the “age it’s the kid’s fault he was raped.”

According to church doctrine, seven is the age a child should understand the difference between right and wrong.

It’s also the age a child is eligible for communion.

A spokesman for the diocese has been trying to defend the bishop, saying that his statements in a deposition don’t mean he believes children are responsible for being raped and that it was “unfair to use the deposition to characterize his position otherwise.”

“Unfair” may not quite cut it where this man is concerned.

When pressed on the issue, he said it wasn’t his place to know how much guilt was on the victim’s hands.

The simple answer, “none,” became another distorted version of reality that somehow makes it at least partially a child’s fault when a priest abuses him.

“Well, I mean, without knowing the circumstances completely, did the boy encourage, go along with (it) in any way?” Cunningham asked.

The lawyer asked Cunningham if he could imagine any circumstance in which a 14 or 15-year-old boy could be held responsible in the eyes of the church when a priest asks him to engage in sex.

“Obviously, what the priest did was wrong,” Cunningham said. “You’re asking me if the young man had any culpability, and I can’t judge that.”

Actually, you can judge that. Anyone can judge that.

What happened is priests used their influence and position as “messengers of God” to force children to comply with their perverted sexual desires.

In the very least they were forced to make adult decisions they didn’t have the capacity to make.

This bishop and all the priests he defended with this mindless argument betrayed the trust of the parishioners and especially the children of the Diocese of Syracuse.

Charles Bailey has circulated a petition he intends to present to Pope Francis in Philadelphia during his visit to remove Bishop Cunningham as the head of the church there.
