Nice, coming to an Amerika near you.

Households asked to put a wash on when it's windy (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/windpower/9868388/Households-asked-to-put-a-wash-on-when-its-windy.html)

EDF Energy has teamed up with Imperial College London to trial the new idea known as “day ahead electricity alerts”.

The year-long trial aims to find out whether people are prepared to do their washing, tumble drying, and other electricity intensive tasks on windy days or at off peak times when green power is cheap and plentiful.

I'm surprised there aren't "incentives" for people to revert to old fashioned lines in their back yard to hang their wet laundry out to dry.

One thing about outside lines, is your laundry gets that fresh smell that no additive to a dryer can match. Something about sunshine and fresh air that is hard to beat.

Edit: Who remembers the old wire frame pant stretchers, to get wrinkles out of bluejeans as they dried? ;D

I used a old wringer washer for years, and hung the laundry out, we didn't have power to run a dryer ,... I hated it the clothes were always stiff.
