Toothpaste acts like a wetstone, it has very fine abrasive particles in it. When brushing your teeth with it, it wears the teeth down. I think I've sandblasted them...

Toothpaste? C'mon, really? With Fluoride too?
I use Oregano oil for years, no cavities in many years.

I use organic sunflower oil for oil pulling then rinse and brush with salt water. Seems to be working well for me.

baking soda is very harsh on your teeth.
really, you don't need toothpaste to clean your teeth. water on the toothbrush works ok. it's all about the technique. 45 degree angle (pointed towards the chewing surface [occlusal])at the gumline. gentle small circles. both tongue and roof side along with cheek side. brush for at least 2 minutes. this is called the BASS technique. brushing at night is more important than the morning.
floss floss floss. IMO, flossing is more important than brushing. at least 3 times a week, minimum....
if you complain of bleeding and pain with flossing, this will pass after 2-4 days of everyday flossing. you can reverse ginigvitis in 5-7 days of flossing and brushing (twice daily). if you don't take care of the gingivitis, this leads to periodontal disease. that is boneloss. you can have the healthiest teeth in the world but if you have perio disease, those pearly white healthy teeth with fall right out. perio disease cannot be cured once you have it. it can only be maintained.
nutrition along with proper homecare is very important.

I've been talking about this for a while now. The best thing to do IMO is get Uncle Harry's Toothpowder (http://www.uncleharrys.com/store/product_info.php/tooth-powder-p-2234). Toothpowder uses natural chalk as its base ingredient (not baking soda.) It has essential oils like Oil of Oregano in it, as well as others to get that nice minty fresh taste/smell. I'm not making money or anything promoting this stuff, it just helped me a lot and I really like it.
My thread about how I cured my cavities:
http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?66607-Update-on-My-Quest-to-Cure-My-Cavities
Toothpaste contains vegetable glycerin which coats the tooth with toothpaste, but in turn blocks natural remineralization of your teeth. Toothpowder is the way to go.

Natures gate makes a nice toothpaste. Anise flavor is nice. Some of the ingredients are cranberry, pomegranate, white tea, grapeseed, Aloe, ginger, calcium, with a touch of baking soda. Very minimal abrasive. Use a soft toothbrush. Rinse after eating if you can't brush.
Get some oral-b "ultra floss", and don't be shy. Your teeth should squeak with this stuff when flossing if done properly.
Hydrogen peroxide every so often works well also. Your gums won't grow back so avoid wearing them down.

That's a dentist lie. I'm not accusing you of lying, but that's what dentists say, and it's total bullshit. My gums all grew back since of my dental methods and being on the Weston A. Price diet.

I'll have to look into that diet. I'm wondering because I eat a ridiculously clean diet like an olympic athlete in training, and I've had no such luck for a couple teeth.
edit:
Scroll down to dietary guidelines:

I've been doing exactly that for a few years now. I'll have to check with my dentist on my gum measurements. Maybe it's just my interpretation of it.

The hygienist at my natural no fluoride no mercury yada yada dentist's office gave me a fancy toothbrush and said the best way to get rid of plaque is to brush dry, with no water OR toothpaste.
BTW, last year I found out that my mouth is full of plaque despite eating a "healthy" paleo diet of meat, veggies, small amounts of fruit and healthy fats for five years. I also had a few cavities.
So word to the wise, avoiding sugar and eeeeevilllll grains will not necessarily give you pristine oral health.

What kind of diet is that? Was it like mine? If so, yep, massive FAIL. :(

Pasture fed free range organic meat, and eggs, no processed foods (I don't eat anything that comes in a box as a rule), no fluoride in the water, no fluoride toothpaste, I don't even drink alcohol, no sugar or sweeteners added to anything, lots of org fruits & vegetables, coconut oil, full fat milk products, all raw whole foods, almonds, pumpkin seeds, fish oil, get lots of vitamin D, with lots of exercise.
The only thing I don't do is the cod liver oil supplementation suggestion. I'm just feeling with my tongue, maybe they are growing back. I had a flat piece of popcorn shell get mercilessly lodged deep in one of my rear molars at the very back. I brushed it too aggressively, and the gum receded quite a bit from it. Aside form that, and a capped tooth which has receded a bit, gums are tough as nails, and never bleed when flossing. The dentist measures my gums on every visit, would be interesting to know exactly.
I would tend to think they would regenerate, like anything else in the body. I'm just not certain.

That's similar to what mine was. What's your body temperature, waking and through the day? It should be around 97.8 on waking, and then 98.6 by late afternoon. Mine was low- to mid-97s throughout the day.
If it's low you may want to change it up and add "bad" things like legumes, sprouted grains, or even junk temporarily à la Matt Stone's Eat for Heat (http://180degreehealth.com/2013/02/eat-for-heat-2).

I'll check into it. I don't have a thermometer, but I get a really stong thermogenic effect after eating, my metabolism is a monster. I literally have to eat every few hours to stop my stomach from gurgling up a storm in protest. My resting heart rate was 50bpm last week when I checked upon waking, I'll try a temp measurement as well.
