My host sucks balls. Used to rank first 3-4 spots on google and within top 5 on yahoo. Site was offline for 3 weeks and I didn't know because my email was still working. Now again can't log into the site yet email works great. This is fukt! Working to get back up and poof! Gone into the abyss again. This can not continue.

Just a small HTML site, nothing fancy. Looking for recommendations before throwing darts into the interweb for hosting.

TIA.

it depends on the content, and how much support you need.

it sounds like, not much support.

if you are posting 'controversial material' ... e.g., telling a non-PC truth, i suggest following ZCF's lead. i know his domain registrar is Namecheap. i'm not sure who his host is.

if you don't need support & just want cheap hosting, i suggest 1and1.com.

not that they deserve your support - they gave ZCF the boot.

and, for good support for a PHP website, Dreamhost is good - they have forums where just about all questions get answered.

I'll check out 1and1, want to check the host here also. This place is seldom down. All I need is a host and my email going through their servers in my business.com name. I have an SEO and he is pissed LOL. We went from top to bottom and worked to get back up and BOOM back into the abyss.

Only support I need is a parking spot that fucking works. We don't even have java or cookies going on, K.I.S.S. I just want a couple jobs a week to pay bills, not to get rich. This just sucks right now. Servers are still dead, no emails in or out. It's pretty fukt when you can't email a quote and customers email get bounced back to them.

GSUS in on godaddy, tons of negative reviews from 2008 to last month although I don't have many probs and a google search comes right up with any info here you search for.

Im using bluehost and am satisfied. I've had to call them a few times for various questions and get an American everytime, pretty short hold times too.

Prices are good but it's the only paid host I've ever had so I don't have much to compare it to.

Depending on bandwidth you could always host it yourself. I've done it with a couple of my forums in the past. Even with dynamic IP addresses. Even hosted my own Exchange mail server for a time. That gets tricky with MX records but that's a whole other topic of discussion.

I recommend these guys. If you don't need fancy drag and drop "site builder" tools and understand linux/shell and HTTP/Web hosting I haven't found anyone better. You pay for what you use (a plus in my book, no expensive "unlimited" garbage. Fair pricing) and they're ROCK SOLID on security, DCMA requests, and will NOT give up information without a warrant.

Some reading about their policies:

I'm sure most of the folks on this forum can get on board with these guys. Strong on privacy.

So that we can comply with our Privacy Policy (http://gold-silver.us/about/privacy.php), we will need a viable subpoena, warrant, or court order, depending on the specific circumstances, before we can provide any information. You are welcome to contact us in advance to discuss the information you will need, which can help minimize delay and tailor the scope of the information sought. However, we will need the final subpoena, warrant, or order to be properly served before we can turn over any information about our members.

Can't really ask for more then that these days...

(I haven't started my account with them yet, but once I build my site for my side business I will be hosting it with them)

EDIT: If you need a more "full-featured" host, I like Dreamhost second due to their stance on SOPA/PIPA. I would avoid GoDaddy if at all possible. I won't give them any of my money after they stated that they supported SOPA.
