I'd like to talk about storing rifles. I hope this isn't a duplicate thread. I searched and didn't find anything about this. How could one store a rifle and ammo long term and still keep it dry and pristine? I have heard of pvc pipe, but it does not seem large enough. I checked one gun and it looks like it would need a 6" diameter pvc pipe to fit it. Once one has found an appropriate pipe, how do you insure no rust from long storage? Should one throw oxy absorbers in before sealing? Maybe evacuate the air with carbon dioxide?

I just ordered a bunch of silica gel packs from silicagelpackets.com. Couldn't hurt to throw a few of those into the storage unit as well. I live in a high humidity environment. I bought these for ammo storage in my ammo cans. Don't see why they wouldn't help with storing rifles as well.

I'd be more concerned with the salt hitch.
