I now can see the greedy little hands of the US going for the golden ring....
============================================
According to this breaking CNN Chile story, Hugo Chavez is dead. In fact, he may have been dead for quite some time if this information is correct. From CNN Chile translated.:
Contact with CNN Chile, Panama's former ambassador to the OAS, Guillermo Cochez, said that since last December 30 President Chavez was declared brain dead in Cuba, with which he returned to Venezuela in that state. For this reason, it has been visited by the various leaders who have visited, questioned and denied as the last picture that was published between Chavez and his daughters.
The information obtained by the former diplomat says are "sources within the Venezuelan government" and that is information that has been circulating for weeks. "Challenge desmentirme Venezuelan government and President Chavez showing so you will know what I say is true or false " to Venezuelans Cochez summoned to clarify the situation.
If anyone understands Spanish and could translate this report below that would be greatly appreciated by the rest of us. I certainly understand "Hugo Chavez esta muerto", though.

From Jan 27...
http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/is-hugo-chavez-already-dead/
"There are persistent rumors that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is dead, with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro adding to the speculation with a letter speaking of Chavez’ “absence.”
For weeks, Chavez has not been heard from, following a series of cancer treatments in Cuba. Earlier reports from Havana said he was fighting a respiratory infection that had developed after his fourth cancer surgery.
Chavez’ respiratory problem – referred to officially as “respiratory deficiency” – reportedly was due to a severe lung infection.
Chavez was first diagnosed with cancer in June 2011."
I had no idea..

I'd heard in a report a few days ago that he was on a vent or had been on a vent because it mentioned his tracheostomy, probably picked up a pseudomonas infection that progressed into pneumonia

Adam Clark Estes (http://www.theatlanticwire.com/authors/adam-clark-estes/) 970 Views 8:50 PM ET
On Wednesday night, one of the more obscure outposts of the CNN empire reported that Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez had died (http://www.cnnchile.com/noticia/2013/02/27/ex-embajador-de-panama-en-la-oea-hugo-chavez-esta-muerto#.US6j6iZ-QfI.twitter), citing a pretty sketchy Panamanian source named Guillermo Cochez. CNN Chile reported quite bluntly: "Hugo Chávez is dead." The news itself, if true, is not unbelievable. The once bombastic politician has been struggling with cancer for sometime now and has largely been out of the public eye for months. Chávez couldn't even make it to his own inauguration. Less than a week ago the Venezuelan government broke the bad news that Chávez was not improving. The 58-year-old has been having breathing problems after returning from Cuba, where he's been receiving medial treatment there, for the third time. Chavez is really sick, and everybody knows it.
But Guillermo Cochez is also arguably a conspiracy theorist. Earlier on Wednesday, Cochez — and only Chochez — reported that Chávez had been brain dead (http://www.el-nacional.com/politica/Cochez-Chavez-muerte-cerebral-diciembre_0_144587327.html) since December 30. Cochez said that Chávez was being kept on life support and later, citing sources within the Venezuelan government, added that his daughters had finally decided to pull the plug. Assuming the best for President Chávez's health, it sort of sounds like Cochez is just trolling the Venezuelans. "I challenge the Venezuelan government to prove me wrong, and to present President Chávez so that it's known whether what I say is the truth or a lie," Cochez told CNN Chile. (Forgive the choppy Spanish translation; it's been a while since college.) So do we believe the guy who's daring the Venezuelan government to prove him wrong?
http://www.chavez.org.ve/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Ch%C3%A1vez-y-sus-hijas-1-540x337.jpgThis photo apparently showing Chávez reading a newspaper from February 14 (http://www.chavez.org.ve/temas/noticias/comunicado-oficial-sobre-evolucion-salud-presidente-chavez/#.US61ROu91y1) would suggest otherwise. There's the Bolivarian leader lying in bed smiling with his two daughters at his side. Of course, it's not that hard to Photoshop a new newspaper onto an old photo of Chávez, and the Venezuelan government is not entirely unexperienced with propaganda. But again, that leads us into conspiracy theory territory. Furthermore, this is hardly the first time a rumor about Chávez's death has made its way around the web (http://news.msn.com/rumors/rumor-venezuelan-president-hugo-chavez-has-died).
For now, the safest thing to assume is that Chávez is just really sick. It is, of course, possible that he's passed away, and the government is keeping it a secret, as Cochez suggests. It's also possible that Cochez is full of it. We'll take it as a serious clue that — as of this writing — none of the other CNN outlets around the world had picked up the story. Like this blogger, they're probably waiting for a second source to confirm the rumor.
Update 9:12 p.m.: Quartz's Gideon Lichfield provides a few more reasons not to trust Cochez. It's worth a read (http://qz.com/57654/could-hugo-chavez-already-be-dead-we-have-reasons-to-doubt/).

Waiting for some info from some people on the ground. I discussed his poor health with them early Jan. Don't think they had any news on being brain dead since December. Did say that everyone was preparing to party big time when he did cark it.

How is he reading that newspaper with his eyes closed?
Better yet, how is he holding a newspaper, and smiling when he's dead?
I would think his daughters right there beside him would be more upset than they appear to be.

I'm hearing that the military hospital compound where he was being treated had very heavy security the past 2 weeks. Seems like there is just normal activity there from yesterday. No ring of souldiers surrounding the place. No other news as yet.

One thing Chavez was good at was devaluing the bolivar. He did it what, two, three times, each time disappearing 30-40% of his people's wealth?
I have a couple gold bolivar coins from the 1800's, when the bolivar was as solid a money as any other.

Isn't the Bolivar the currency of Bolivia?

Maybe (to some) he was only a pesky little dictator, as per Castro, but at least he was keeping the Americans at bay.....you
will now see more of the "relation" between the US and Venezuela where they will a big show of becoming more friendly. And after that more demands from the US about their oil......and then WOMD will be found and we will have to go in to "liberate" them.......
