The "marijuana cannon" (Mexicali Public Safety Department)

Mexican police have confiscated an improvised cannon that they say was used to fire packages of marijuana across a border fence into California.

The makeshift cannon was made of plastic pipe and powered by compressed air sourced from an old car engine, police in the border city of Mexicali said. The device was able to fire cylinders packed with up to 30 pounds of pot.

The cannon was discovered on Tuesday after U.S. officers told Mexican police that they had been confiscating a large number of drug packages that appeared to have been fired over the border, the Associated Press said.

It's not the first time drug traffickers have used a cannon to transport marijuana across the border. In December, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials recovered more than 30 cans of marijuana scattered in Yuma, Ariz., near the Colorado River.

According to NBC (http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/12/15858236-unique-smuggling-attempt-42500-worth-of-marijuana-shot-into-ariz-by-cannon?lite), an investigation of the area "determined that the cans were fired from about 500 feet away with a pneumatic-powered cannon" and that a "carbon-dioxide tank was found nearby."
In that case, the cannon was not found. But Mexican border police said on Tuesday that they have confiscated similar devices in recent years.

Why waste time with marijuana? one simple shot 3 lbs of heroin would be = to 25 shots of marijuana and it would go five times the distance, and to shot the marijuana with no one to recover it?, just plain stupit....... they should have shot it at night and with a couple of LED's on them to make them easy to spot.

How about a super cross bow? the projectile would be filled with the white powder and could be shot from Tijuana over the border into the US, once everything is proven, and on target, they should be able to shoot it all night long.

You gotta give it to these innovative entrepreneurs, they will think of anything to get their product to their customers.

Of course, I could do without all the violence and lack of quality control inherent in the drug cartel's business, but that's a concern for the legislators who created this environment, not the producers and distributors of the product. Legalize the plant, and the violence will go down and quality control will go up.

How the fuck can they declare a 'plant' illegal anyways?

As soon as they find a way to collect taxes and get rid of the conpetition it will become legal.

"Playa de Tijuana" is the part of Tijuana Mexico just south of the border, which is also where the Tijuana River flows into the ocean.

it's just a short swim, through a River outflow that is often filled with raw sewage, to get from Mexico to the beach south of Imperial Beach.

seems like an easy way to get 'product' from Mexico to the US.

what i wonder is why Mexican marijuana producers tend towards the low-quality end of the market. they have all the resources in the world to grow herb that's as good as any, which gets a much higher price, e.g. BC bud.

it's not that much more work. but, for some reason, they keep cranking out pressed-brick "Mersh".

To get high quality junk it needs to have more daylight than occurs naturally there. The good stuff is grown indoors hydroponically.
