I decided to go to bed early, when I got to my bedroom I found a small bat flying around, he came in by way of the upstairs cat window,.......so, I got hold of a small loundry basket and after ten minutes I got him......but.....he got away, after fifteen minutes I got hold of him once more.....and once more he got away. I lost track of him so I started to look all over the house.......as I was walking past the living room mirrow I looked at the mirrow (I am worse than a woman hahahahhaa) and guess what I saw?.......the bat attached himself to my back LOLLLLLLL. I got a waste basket with smaller holes and put him there and from there to the outside world.........but first I put a piece of banana, one of plum and one of canalope, he will eat like a pig and I will sleep a lot better, I care for a human life up to a point but for an animal 100%.

By the way, while trying to get hold of the bat it was a race between my cat and me.........the danm cat keep on making funny noises and growling.

So, you got a fruit bat to migrate from the tropics into your northern climate?

Hey- maybe Ponce is doing some self-cloning experiments. He is, after all, my favorite Puerto Rican revolutionary.

Awesome story! By the way, do you know how it got into your house? I don't think bats typically go solo. Where there's one, there may be more. You should take a flashlight up to your attic to check to make sure you don't have a colony of them living up there.

Only way he could have come in by way of the cat window upstairs.......when I went out to check on him he was gone and it looks like if he invited his family to have a picnik because all the fruit was gone.....I think that I'll put the left over fruit out at night time......also, they do live in my attic but they can not get in the house from there, you should see them coming out of there in summer, love it.

First post of the day.......good morning to one and all.

Find 7 more and you could have a team! ;D

Ponce y el equipo de béisbol de los murciélagos!

Edit: All kidding aside, bats are cool.

Years ago I built several bat houses that are still being occupied that I have scattered around the property. They are good for bug and mosquito control. The ones that hang here are Mexican free tails and it is nifty as you have said to watch them come out at night.

Just be very careful about how you pick up and handle them, rabies is always a risk, not a huge one but there nevertheless.

You better make sure they're not leaving large piles of guano to build up in your attic, the poop will get heavy and your ceiling will cave in with the weight of it all. And make sure the air intake to your furnace is pulling air from the outside, not from the attic, otherwise you're breathing poo air.

I do have a "cat ramp" for the cat to go up and down......I just to hadle bats by hand but then I learned that some of them do have rabies so that now I do it different....... the attic is the V part of the house and about a foot high with a window at each end, no way I can climb in there...I can always use it as a garden, somehow, plenty of guano.

Cat still looking for the bat, this cat is batty......cleaning the inner yard I found a bunch of bones, I don't give bones to the dog .... looks like some unlucky beast came into the inner yard :(

Ponce, an attic full of bat crap is not a healthy thing to have around, especially for someone who's not as young and healthy as he used to be. If I were you I'd hire a company to clean out your attic, repair any damaged ceiling board, replace any stained/saturated insulation, and install new louvers in your attic that will allow air in, but not bats. I've seen many times in vented attics they set the furnace to pull the air in directly from the attic instead of from outside. If that's the case with your house, you're breathing in guano fumes day and night.
