IMO, most cops are cowards, thats one of the reasons they'll shoot for spitting on the sidewalk, they don't want any physical confrontation, and if they have no special duty to protect, neither do I if one of them gets into trouble, it goes both ways

I wasn't there, but I have to think IF that'd been me instead of going for his leg to bring him down, I would focus on imobilizing the threat, like try to restrain the hand or arm holding the knife, by going for his leg, it left the knife free, lucky he wasn't stabbed in the back, and as a side note gelman got 200 years in prison
