Just finished my reconditioning my short barrel/riot shootgun this weekend. I am ashamed to say over at last 20 years (longer probably) my attention has been towards rifles, but for some reason I decided last week to look at my major home short range home gun. Have not really payed much attention to the shotgun world because I am a rifleman. Just had this one, it is a Stevens/Savage/Springfield 67d. 18 1/4" barrel, nickle plated. That I won from a bar owner here in Gladewater in the mid 70' in a game of pool.

Choke= you got to be kidding! ;D

My major loads are 00 buck, or larger.

Never have use slugs, but one thing that I think about when it comes to short range home defense is penetration and stopping power, that is why I do prefer a shotgun over a rifle. Plus in the heat of the moment you just sorta point into the general direction of your targets and will probably get a hit, unlike a rifle.

I have just looked at what is available on the web, some I have heard of and others not. There seems to be some really wild shit as far as ammo goes.

Back when a teen, a group of us used to raid watermelon patches in the area, and at one time I did get rock salt in my back while running like a mf away, that same owner liked also to inject croten oil into some of his melons.
(that is a whole different story!) ;D

what loads do you prefer?

What I really want now, is a combo gun. A 22 lr/410 combo. I'd like to be able to shoot 410 slugs too. The gun I'm hoping to get is the Chiappa double badger.

Good thread, Dogman. I have a HR single shot 12 gauge right now. She allows a screw choke, right now modified. I can shoot anything but slugs out of her. She kicks like a mule. Had this gun for 20 years, still just as new as I bought her.
