Every month, 14 million people now get a disability check from the government.

In Hale County, Alabama, 1 in 4 working-age adults is on disability.

And the ironic thing is... Eh, I'm sorry, "ironic" won't work here. I'll start over. The fucked-up thing here is, everyone I know confined to a wheelchair, including my little brother, his whole life, are hard working and have never taken a dime of "disability" from the government. I guess the ultra-fucked-up thing is, these people in wheelchairs are working to pay taxes to support masses of people pretending to be disabled, and the government is the reason; government enables the enabled to be disabled.

Go by a Walmart on any given day, and see all the 75 handicapped-reserved parking spots full of cars, sporting government-issued handicap permits from the rearview mirror. Now go in the store (I don't actually suggest this), and I can tell you right now, chances are, you will not find a wheelchair in the whole place.

I tell ya, many times it seems karma needs help in dishing out the justice.

The other day exiting the highway I see this guy waving a gas can, saying "Help I can't get home to my family." I'm a sucker for helping people if I think the need is true - Bought him enough gas to get home, told him the ordeal was over. He called me "brother" and thanked me, promising to pay my kindness forward. I said that if he helped the next person in need, that would be all the thanks I needed.

Saw the same guy a month later pulling the same thing. He asked for help and I told him I had already helped him - didn't he remember? He said he needed more help and I said in disgust, "Is this your job?" and he pretty much confirmed it.

I want to help, I do. But 90% of the people you see asking for money just don't want to work. It's hard to tell who actually needs gas to get home to their family (one time thing) versus who is lying to get free money. Only a fraction of them are seriously down on their luck and need your help.

If you could separate that fraction out somehow, you could do some good! I still help people, but it's a case by case basis. And I try to give my services (fix your computer, change your tire) instead of giving money.
