Junk silver is perhaps the worst misnomer on the planet, as no product represents more “value” for the price. Given its small denominations (a “junk dime,” for example, is worth roughly $3), government issuance, and scarcity, no Precious Metal item is better suited for an uncertain future; particularly if the worst-case scenario of a temporary “barter society” emerges.

Morgans aren't considered "junk" silver, because they have numismatic value above and beyond their metal value. The junk coins are the ones where their silver value is what counts, i.e. most dimes, quarters and halves.

Of course, really worn or damaged silver dollars can be had closer to spot price.

Circ. Silver is easier for the general public to recognize (as Silver) than 1 ounce rounds and other forms.

As some Youtube video's demonstrate, the General Public sometimes has problems recognizing the value of Silver.

So Circulated US Silver is a great form of Silver.

I love Morgans, even though they aren't 100% silver I'd still rather have them than an Eagle. APMEX had a good deal on some maybe a year + ago, I got the culls, which don't have holes but are tarnished. They look awesome to me, plus they're well over 100 years old. I'm surprised they don't have more numismatic value.

If I were an unscrupulous bastard I would think you could rip someone off just telling them that it's an old ass silver coin.

speaking of crusty ass, i wanted to figure out the diameter of a 1 ounce gold sphere.

seems like the optimum shape for some kinds of cross-border transfers. might feel kind of heavy in your stomach.


here are the calc's -

2.54 cm = 1 inch, 16.387064 cc per cubic inch.

make it .0983 cubic inches

then use the online calculator

i wonder how that would show up on the airport scanner. let's say someone swallowed 10x 1 ounce .999 gold spherical rounds, an hour or 2 before going through the scanner, so that it's in their stomach or upper intestine.

can an airport X-Ray machine see that ? i have the impression that they're tuned to show objects near the surface, e.g. an object (hypothetical weapon) in the rectum or vagina.


if it came down to it, would you rather swallow 10 1 ounce rounds (9/16 inch diameter) or 20x 1/2 ounce rounds (.446 inch diameter) or 40x 1/4 ounce rounds (.354 inch diameter).

the 1/4 ounce rounds would be easier to make. if you used a torch on a 1/4 ounce Maple, you would get a bead that was almost spherical. with a 1 ounce Maple, surface tension wouldn't be enough to counter gravity, and it would be more disc-shaped, so you would actually need a mold to get the sphere shape.
