Anyone have any experience with scopes for the Ruger 10/22? I just picked one up and want to mount a inexpensive scope just for messing around with in the desert, it doesn't need to be a high end one....

Thanks!

I have a scope for it, but honestly, when you consider the range of the gun, I think a red dot sight might be better.

Go on Amazon and do a search, and see what has the most Star (4 to 5) rating for a 22LR gun. Look for people commenting how it works on their 10/22.

That makes sense, Thanks!

Ive never owned a red dot sight, only fired it in COD. LOL

I use the Stoner 96 LMG with a Red Dot in Far Cry 3. I'm usually the one of the top players with it.

Or the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire fixed 4x scope.

Thanks for both of those guys. I dont know very much, but the reviews seem good. Is 9x really overkill for this caliber like one of the comments said?

MR - What are the drawbacks of having a fixed zoom?

I wouldn't get a scope that's more that $50 for a 10/22. Consider the price of the rifle itself, and that fact that they aren't that accurate at a distance anyways.

My Ruger Air Hawk is more accurate than my 10/22, and its a .177 pellet rifle.

Usually keep it at the 3X for wider field of view but by just spinning the housing you instantly get the 9x to more closely inspect your 100-yard MOA group. Also becomes a handy always-have-with-you 9x telescope so you don't need to carry binoculars in the field while looking out for zombies.

I have a 3-9x on mine and it's pretty overkill. As book said it's useful enough to be able to see without bringing binoculars but my 10/22 is quite inaccurate (long story). It depends what you need it for, I would think 4x is fine for most things. Another thing to consider and I'm not an expert on this but the magnification changes the accuracy of the gun, for example if you sight it in a 9x bullseye will be different at 3x.

Thats kinda what i was thinking.....$130 scope for a $300 gun seems a bit much.

Thanks for all the great info guys!

How does weight play a factor for scopes? This gun seems so light, i dont want it to be 'top' heavy......Im leaning towards the 4x fixed, or the red dot sight.

Thanks again GSUS'ers!

If you're disinclined to buy a high end scope such as the Nikon Prostaff then I suggest you go on feebay and do a search for either 'Bushnell rimfire' or 'Tasco rimfire'. Both brands will be suitable for your purposes if you stick to the 4x fixed power.

It says it fits "3/8 receivers"? Will this fit my 10/22 with the 'rail' that it came with? I measured it, and it isnt 3/8"? Forgive my ignorance and thanks for the help!

I always though it would be interesting to see a product that would assemble 4 or 5 10/22 receivers into one trigger.

Thus eliminating the need for a scope.

When it states "3/8" receivers" it's likely referring to receivers with scope grooves machined into the top of the receiver and not a scope mount (rail) which is attached to the top of a 10/22 and other .22 rifles with screws.

DYODD - I don't have that info available w/o doing some 'net searching.

An arrow shaft works well as a speedloader for the Model 60. The feed tube can also be rotated so the feed slot is at roughly the 10:00 position instead of the 6:00 position. Then ride the round down the feed tube and barrel and they drop right in.

For my .22s, I like Tech Sights.

I personally like lower power scopes - 1-4x. You'll be shooting maybe max 50-75 yards 98% of the time. If your lowest power is too high, it'll be harder to acquire a target.

I even have a Nightforce 1-4x on my AR.

You probably don't need the rail. Your 10/22 should already have one that would fit those scope rings.

Yeah it came with one, but most of the reviews on Amazon said it sucked.....It was only 5$ FRN's.......

Thanks again

Okay guys, thanks again for all the help!

I went shooting yesterday with the new scope. I have never dialed in a scope before, so i took my time. It took me about a full 25 rd clip to get it pretty close to dead on. The rings kept coming loose, and i didnt realize that until about 1/2 way through the clip. LOL I am going to put some blue locktite on them for the next go around.

I had so much fun i went through an entire 325 rd box of .22LR...... :)

I used roughly a 50 yard target, which had a bullseye of about 1" in diameter. Towards the end i was able to get multiple shots within a 1-2" area, which i think is pretty good for someone who has no experience with scopes. Anyone else?

I also noticed the 10rd mag it came with seemed to jam a good amount, almost all were failure to extract. It would extract the spent cartridge, but wouldnt be able to get it out of the way before the next one came up. It never did this with the 25rd mag? This gun is brand new out of the box.....?

All in all i had a great time, and am now addicted to scopes. :) I need one for my AR now......

Oh yeah, the wife is deadly accurate compared to me. LOL I have a bunch of video i may post with my wife....err i mean Annie Oakley........

I don't know what to say about the jamming, mine rarely [if ever does]

Good to see you are happy with your purchase.

I've noticed that usually women are generally more accurate than men.
