WACO (April 17, 2013)—Emergency crews were responding Wednesday night after a report of a major explosion at a burning fertilizer plant in West north of Waco.

West firefighters were dispatched to the plant earlier in the evening after an earlier fire rekindled.

The explosion was reported at around 7:50 p.m. in a frantic radio call from the scene of the fire at West Fertilizer at 1471 Jerry Mashek Dr. just off Interstate 35.

Numerous injuries were reported and multiple ambulances were requested.

Several buildings were reported destroyed and a nearby nursing home was damaged.

There were reports that people were trapped in the nursing home and in an apartment building.

Scanner traffic indicated that some residents of both the nursing home and apartment building were severely injured.

Department of Public Safety troopers transported some victims to hospitals in patrol cars, said Gayle Scarbrough at the DPS Communications Center in Waco.

A triage area was established at the intersection of Haven and North Reagan Streets.

Six helicopters were en route to West and will land at the baseball field on Tokio Road, south of town, said Gayle Scarbrough, Department of Public Safety Communications in Waco.

A number of buildings were reported to be burning, some in residential areas and evacuations were underway.

West Middle School was one of the buildings reported to be on fire.

Injured victims were being taken to area hospitals.

An officer was dispatched to provide crowd control at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, which issued a call to all staffers to report.

The explosion knocked out power to a large area of the community.

Oncor’s online outage site showed more than a thousand customers without power.

Oncor Outage Website (http://www.oncor.com/community/outages)Interstate 35 remained open, but a number of emergency vehicles were on the highway headed to West and from West to hospitals.

A woman who was passing through West on Interstate 35 at the time of the explosion said she and her boyfriend saw a fireball 100-feet wide shoot into the air.

A man who lives 15 miles northwest of Hillsboro felt the concussion from the explosion.

Army Sgt. Rocky J. Havens said in an e-mail he felt the shock in Italy, north of Hillsboro.

Tonya Harris of Groesbeck said in an e-mail she heard the explosion.
“My husband and l were cleaning up the kitchen after supper, and heard what we thought was someone running into our house. It shook our windows and doors. We immediately ran outside looking for the worst,” she said.

Adam Clark Estes (http://www.theatlanticwire.com/authors/adam-clark-estes/) 9:50 PM ET
Updated (10:52 p.m.): Several homes are on fire, and residents of a nearby retirement home are trapped inside after an explosion (http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2013/04/17/fertilizer-plant-explosion-reported-north-of-waco/) at a fertilizer plant exploded in West, Texas, a small town near Waco. The cause of the explosion and extent of the damage is unclear, but the local Department of Public Safety says that several people are severely injured (http://www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/Explosion-Injuries-Reported-At-West-Fertilizer-Plant-203505331.html). The explosion could be felt as far away as Dallas, which is nearly 100 miles away. (Scroll to the bottom of this post for a live feed from the local NBC affiliate (http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Explosion-Rocks-Fertilizer-Plant-During-Fire-203508011.html).)
Witnesses nearby reported seeing a massive fireball rise from the site of the plant. It's all pretty scary for those nearby. "I said, 'This thing is going to blow' ... and I told my mom and dad to get in the car," one witness told the Waco Tribune (http://www.wacotrib.com/news/fire/multiple-buildings-in-west-ablaze-after-fertilizer-plant-explodes/article_51082f25-3238-5c50-9d12-3f11bafcf352.html). "I was standing next to my car with my fiancee, waiting for my parents to come out and [the plant] exploded. It knocked us into the car... Every house within about four blocks is blown apart."
Once again, little is known about the incident. A hazmat team and firefighters had been dispatched to the fertilizer plant after reports of a fire. Apparently the explosion occurred after they arrived, and several firefighters were injured. "There's nothing I can tell you other than that we've had an explosion," the West, Texas Fire Department told the press (https://twitter.com/ravisomaiya/status/324708415702171649). "There are injuries, casualties, it's terrible." The CEO of the local Hillcrest Hospital said (https://twitter.com/nycjim/status/324709258350452739) that they anticipate about 100 injured people.
With the recent terror attack in Boston, an explosion like this is certainly unsettling. But again, we don't yet know what caused the explosion, so don't jump to any conclusions. It is worth noting that this week is the 20th anniversary of the end of the deadly siege in Waco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_siege). This is a developing story, and we'll update you with new information as it flows in.

I don't think a missile is necessary to create an explosion at a fertilizing plant, I would think what was seen at the video was turbulence and gases was ignited in the more oxygen rich environment away from the fire, but certainly I wouldn't rule out that the fire was intentionally started...

Anhydrous Ammonia is stored in tanks. We deal with ammonia for refrigeration and we know about the safety issues involved.

Somewhere, on some news report, they said the firefighters were called because the ammonia tanks were on fire. HUH??? Ammonia will not burn. It must change to a LIQUID vapor with a concentration of 250,000 PPM {parts per million} in atmosphere to become combustible. {Think of a propane tank}. How can you set a propane tank on fire? Just as a propane tank has a relief valve so do ammonia tanks. {You can heat them up though}

Now usually, ammonia tanks are set on a concrete base and hopefully not close to the electrical power distribution....(Think transformer blowing} but then it would have to puncture the tank, liquid vapor escape, concentration level reached and then ignition from the still burning transformer. I never heard of this happening.

But listening about the 911 call, that person on the plant said the ammonia tanks were on fire. This sounds strange to me.

I hate to say it but it sounds like a fire was started either accidentally or on purpose. Tanks got hot, ruptured, then liquid vapor escapes under pressure, and then ignition.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist per say, but ximmy's point is valid... Boston, Powder in the mail to Govt , and West in Texas.... It does make one think.

I bet they will enforce silly rules about how to "properly" manage plants like these and thus raise production costs... to keep it away from the American population so that they cant blow up any of those armored personnel carriers.

After a horrific and alarming video of a dad and his daughter watching the Texas fertilizer plant exploding circulated through the internet, many wondered if they had escaped safely.

Now, the father, Derrick Hurtt, is speaking out about that terrifying moment.

On NBC's Today show, Hurtt spoke about the violent explosions he experienced with his 12-year-old daughter, Khloey.

She's the one that can be heard in the background, frantically asking her father to get them out of harm's way.

The two tell NBC they were about 300 yards west of the West, Texas plant, shooting video when the explosion happened.

Hurtt can be heard asking his daughter if she’s OK. She responds that she is and begs her father to drive away.

“Please get out of here, please get out of here. Oh my God, dad please get out of here," she can be heard saying. "I can't hear anything."

Hurtt described a scene of terror in the moments after the explosion.

“It was a pretty horrific scene, some of the injuries we saw,’’ Hurtt told Matt Lauer.

He says the force of the explosion lifted his truck off the ground. “It just blew me over on top of her,” Hurtt told Lauer. “It all happened so quick that things just kind of went black for a moment.”

Hurtt said his daughter’s inner ear is sore, but she has her full hearing back. He estimated they were 250 to 300 yards away from the plant when they started filming.

what we will all see from this is the cost of food going up more . just wait till the farmer has to add the cost of higher price of fertilizer into the cost of his crops he will be planting

Ammonium Nitrate is the same cheap fertilizer that was used in the Oklahoma City bombing. Chertoff and the tribe blew up this Texas warehouse so the goyim can't find any.

Just read this story. Apparently you have to notify the DHS goons if you store such and such amount of ammonium nitrate.

Texas fertilizer company didn't heed rules before blast (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-rt-us-usa-explosion-regulationbre93j09n-20130420,0,2987009.story)

Then there is this angle

Before the Blast, West Fertilizer’s Monsanto Lawsuit (http://blogs.wsj.com/corporate-intelligence/2013/04/18/before-the-blast-west-fertilizers-monsanto-lawsuit/)

Fertilizer plants and depots must report to the DHS when they hold 400 lb (180 kg) or more of the substance. Filings this year with the Texas Department of State Health Services, which weren't shared with DHS, show the plant had 270 tons of it on hand last year.

A decent sized farm has that.

That is all I see. There is NO evidence of a missile.

Now, what started the fire is an entirely different question.
