There is a description on the page of where this was taken. I didn't see that but was able to decipher where the camera was and where it was looking.

The first segment is turning from the west and north towards the East of the city along Hay Street toward the Town Hall. You can see the clock tower.

Hay Street is a major street in the CBD. The middle portion of it.... where this video was taken is actually a street Mall now and has been for many decades. You can see they used to have trams running up and down the street.

The second portion moves east along Hay street and then the final portion is from in front of the Town Hall looking back West across Barrack Street (names because the army barracks are on it. They are maybe one kilometre from there but on the northside of the city in Northbridge.).

I recognize the tobacconist shope who, while not the same company is still situated in that same store. Not much to see in there these days with all the laws on displaying tobacco products but it was the place to go for special blends or to get imported US or Euro cigarettes.

I also saw someone was running an American Bar. I wonder what passed for an American Bar in 1907. There is also a bit of a dust up right near the start between 2 blokes in the street.

This is current google street view looking at the tobacco shop and back up Hay Street Mall. Barrack street is the one with the car on it. The barracks are in the direction of the car.

Oh how fortunate. They have a McDonalds.

I always find it funny that in Australia, there is no Burger King. It is Hungry Jacks. I guess you cannot use the King's name in jest?

Many decades ago a man bought the rights to the Aussie Franchise of Burger King. I don't recall the specifics. Either there was already a burger king registered somewhere or he was only allowed to use the business system, not the name.

There was recently a court case between him and Burger King. They were trying to get their brand back because apart from the name everything else is the same. They lost, he won. "The burgers are better at hungry jacks" goes the slogan. Most of them are now run by middle eastern, central asian people so now the saying goes "the burqas are better at hungry jacks". Won't be long and it will be called Halal Jacks.
