Today, May 2, 2013 at 12:00 Noon ET, the United States Mint will begin sales of the 2013 Silver Proof Set. This 14-coin set includes seven coins struck in a composition of 90% silver.

Each 2013 Silver Proof Set includes the following coins:

2013-S Proof Lincoln Cent
2013-S Proof Jefferson Nickel
2013-S Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime
2013-S Silver Proof America the Beautiful Quarters – featuring White Mountain National Forest, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, Great Basin National Park, Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, Mount Rushmore National Memorial
2013-S Silver Proof Kennedy Half Dollar
2013-S Proof Presidential Dollars – featuring William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson
2013-S Proof Native American Dollar

All coins are struck at the San Francisco Mint and carry the “S” mint mark. The dime, quarters, and half dollars are struck in 90% silver and 10% copper. The remaining coins carry their standard compositions.
The coins are packaged in three plastic lenses which are placed into a redesigned outer cardboard box, which features the Washington Monument at sunset on one side and images of each park, President, or coin on the other side.
The 2013 Silver Proof Set is priced at $67.95, unchanged from the prior year. There are no stated product limits or ordering limits in place.
Last’s years annual Silver Proof Set had sold out in early January, after being available for about seven months. The final reported sales of 395,443 (http://proofsetguide.com/2012-silver-proof-set/) established a new low for the product type by a considerable margin. The 2012 Silver Proof Set currently commands a healthy premium on the secondary market.

I'm thinking like mamboni.
The actual silver content is likely to be all that it is worth when things get really tough.
When hyperinflation hits collectibles will surely rise but in my mind they will also fall in the following deflationary depression when their silver & gold content will be their only value.

My guess is that you can probably make a nice profit selling these on Ebay, even after the fees, and especially if you're willing to hold on to them for a few years. But, this is a collectbale and a speculative investment much more than a metal investment. But I'm sure you knew that.

A half, quarter, and dime contain about 0.61 ounces of total silver, so the cost per ounce for this proof set is about $110.

The important thing is to be aware that this is different than a straight bullion purchase. Two reasons for doing this are:
1) You enjoy looking at proof coins and you enjoy the "collector" aspect, and
2) There's a chance for greater appreciation than straight bullion, knowing that there is also the chance of less appreciation, or even depreciation.

Edit: It looks like mamboni already pointed this out. ;)

you seem to like collecting stuff, so "what the hell".

it sounds like you scouted out the market.

Just for the silver content.... It comes to $36

4 America the Beautiful Quarters, then 1 regular silver dime quarter and half dollar.Penny, nickle, and5 dollar coins. This may be the last year we have these coins. With the bill to change to steel coinage this year just might be one of those times where the proof set price can sky rocket... ? Time will tell... but I think that the silver proof sets may hold their own.

I missed that it's actually 5 quarters. That would put the total metal content at 1.33 ounces, which is $32 at the moment? At a cost of $67, you'd be paying $51/ounce.

But I bet they look nice. :D
