The “acne” — as foreign minister Salman khurshid described it — could well turn into a deep scar on India’s face, with the Chinese reinforcing their position across the Line of Actual Control and raising the real prospect of India losing access to 750 sq km in strategically crucial northern Ladakh.

While China on Tuesday rebuffed India’s plea to withdraw its troops, squatting 19km inside Indian territory at Raki Nala in the Depsang Bulge area, fresh imagery from Indian spy drones has shown that the People’s Liberation Army has already started using trucks to replenish supplies for over 30 soldiers stationed there. The pictures, which also show that PLA is trying to convert the track there into a proper road, are transforming what the government had called a “localized problem” into a first-rate diplomatic crisis.

The recognition has led to India starting to toughen its response, with Army chief General Bikram Singh on Wednesday briefing the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on the “counter-measures” possible. While a military showdown is not imminent, India may escalate its protest from demarches into a reappraisal of bilateral ties just ahead of the visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on May 20.

This could end up being a big deal China is asserting itself slowly be steadfastly. -Mort

Interesting map on that site it shows as if Pakistan doesn't have a trading route with China, which they certainly did in the 90's, as I several times went to and across the Khunjerab pass between China and Pakistan. Did India take these territories from Pakistan, and now China is taking them from India? To re-open the trading routes to Pakistan? I will search a bit about this...

According to Wikipedia, Pakistan still has the border crossing w china at the Khunjerab pass...

In 1991 I went to the pass and went into the Chinese area and took a dump there, and went back to Pakistan. In 1997 I went across it into China to Urumqi. There I ended up kissing John Howard's (for a while the party leader of the conservative party of UK) daughter Larissa after drinking beers for a whole day... Fun days!

It's hard to get any edible food in China. Having travelled there for several months in 95 and 97 have turned me off Chinese take away forever I believe, sure I can appreciate that it is better quality outside of China, but the spices in the food make me associate it with my experiences there...

I was in China a couple of years ago on business and the food was great. I didn't know what I was eating sometimes but it was all very high quality. I was in Beijing and Shanghai/Chengzhou and was treated like royalty by the Chinese people we were doing business with. The Peking duck was delicious (I ate that at a place in Beijing that specialized in that dish and they had pictures of all the Olympic celebrities that ate there). Perhaps in the hinterlands the food is of less quality. However China is a very large country with large regional differences in food. Where were you?
