And you know danm well that more than a "few" bikers had guns.
=============================================

e than 150 motorcyclists — including members of Hells Angels — flouted police authority Saturday when the group refused to stop at a roadside check on Vancouver Island.

According to Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, police had information that the bikers would participate in a group ride Saturday and set out to conduct safety checks. Police officers from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. and other integrated road safety units then gathered near Duncan to monitor and halt the large group of motorcyclists, who had plans to travel from Nanaimo to Victoria on the Island Highway.

“The bikers, many of whom were observed allegedly ignoring red lights at intersections, speeding, and unsafely passing other vehicles on the road after leaving Nanaimo, were stopped on Highway 1 southbound near the North Cowichan Municipal Hall shortly after 2 p.m.,” Houghton said.

However, the bikers refused to pull into the roadside check area that had been set up and instead, blocked the highway, refusing direction from officers. The showdown ended when outnumbered officers were faced with no choice but to let the group pass. Houghton said police “documented the refusals” and would follow up with appropriate enforcement.

“Seeing a large group of bikers rolling down the highway and through towns can be intimidating for the public and that is their intention — to intimidate,” Houghton said. “Today was yet another example of groups like the Hells Angels thinking they are above the law. CFSEU-BC and its policing partners will continue to monitor events like today’s and ensure the public’s safety by seizing every available and appropriate enforcement opportunity against those involved in organized crime.

Funny I see organized crime all around me, it is in the form of government and idiots in blue uniforms thinking they represent "law" and "order" when they represent violence and oppression. Hope more groups of people stand up to the real organized criminals.

Staged event? If the "Hells Angels" were really breaking the laws, then every pig in the area would surround the area. Sounds like a puff piece to make it look like the popo is outnumbered.

Corrected for accuracy.

"Safety Checks" my ass. Nothing to do with "safety" and everything to do with the state trying to show who's boss.

They refused to be harrassed for BS reasons. Good for them!

Ponce, 'in the old days' laws were strictly for the protection of property rights and nothing else.

When there was a big run of bikes where I used to live the cops would block traffic at every intersection and the bikes would just go through. I was eating with my kid and they drove by for more than 15 minutes! That's a long time to be sitting at a light.

Been on a few rides and blocking intersections by LEO and or other bikers is common. Don't like riding in a pack one screwup and more than a couple riders can be taken out. I agree I think this is a puff piece.

I live on Vancouver Island and see bikers all the time. They mind their own business and i've never known them to bother
anyone, unlike cops.

I've ridden over 200,000 miles. I too, don't like riding in packs, as It is a dangerous situation. I think this is a puff piece also. I have seen more problems at the rodeo than I ever saw on at a bíker rally.

Sorry Ponce, but whenever I see a grown man on a scooter I point and laugh. It just doesn't look right. But I'd let an old Cuban ride with me anytime....
