Sydney has been having a big problem with oversized trucks driving into tunnels that are too low. So Sydney needed a stop sign that is absolutely impossible to miss. Here it is and it's amazing.
It's a curtain of water with a stop sign projected onto it. You can have as many overhead stop signs as you want, but as this 10 News video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoTMC-uxJoo) report shows, truck drivers still crash their trucks into these low-overhead tunnels. Sydney was tired of the delays, the costs of the damages, and the threat that a truck crash would get someone killed.
That's why in 2007 they put in this water curtain sign on its harbor tunnel, designed by light show company Laservision (http://www.laservision.com.au/files/upload/Softstop.PDF.pdf). They work brilliantly.
Here's the whole news clip.

over height is a big problem here and of course once you get passed the last chance to turn off your stuck. We have a lot of old subways and low traffice bridges that the trucks get stuck under. Hasn't been one here for maybe 3 months. Having said that I'll wager there will be one in the next week.

Cool idea though. I wonder if they will do that here on our tunnel. I'll ask the tunnel traffic rescue guy today when I speak to him if he's heard of this.

I'm hearing a truck is hanging off a bridge this morning in Melbourne. The trailer is holding the driver cab from dropping off the bridge apparently. Bit touch and go.
