MANOR, TX (KEYE/CBS) – A weapons company began this week rolling out a groundbreaking "smart" rifle that can target and track a moving object from long distance.
Trackingpoint began shipping the guns to customers Wednesday and also held a demonstration that Texas Gov. Rick Perry attended.
The rifle is precision guided with "lock and launch" technology similar to a fighter jet. It allows the shooter to designate a target using a digital scope with a ballistic calculator and multiple sensors. It can provide an accurate shot on moving targets for up to 1,200 yards.
Perry said the rifle's greatest value is to the military.
"This is an incredibly technical piece of equipment that in its most important form, in my perspective, on the battle field allows our men and women to defend themselves at substantially further distances than before," Perry said.
The rifle costs between $20,000 to $30,000. Trackingpoint officials said they have already sold hundreds of the guns.
Yep, heard about these on the news today, some bitch reporter was bemoaning the fact that "if only people would work as hard keeping our kids safe as they work to make deadly guns, waaaah, waaaah, I'm a little baby I need the government to protect me and keep me safe, waaah waah!" Transcribed verbatim.
