This is real life. Former Democratic Massachusetts State Representative Stephen Doran has been busted with 500 grams of Crystal Meth which has an approximate street value of $50,000. Mr. Doran would seem to share an eerie resemblance to the character “Walt” in the AMC hit drama Breaking Bad. Mr. Doran is terminally ill and is a tutor at the local school much like the AMC character who is a High School science teacher who determines to make it as a drug dealer when he gets a terminal diagnosis.

WHDH.com (http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/metro-west/10010695249587/former-state-rep-arraigned-on-drug-charges/) reports:

Stephen Doran, a former Bay State representative and math tutor, has been charged with dealing drugs.
Investigators say Doran was dealing methamphetamine, and they say he received a big shipment at the school where he tutored.
Doran, now 57, was just 23 in 1980 when he began seven terms at the State House, representing Lexington and Lincoln.
Doran left politics to be a vice president at a major Boston bank; a past some neighbors didn’t even know about.
“If he has these other kind of jobs, he’s obviously had some problems in his life,” said John Miles, a neighbor.
A state trooper’s report says police found drugs were being mailed to Doran at the middle school where he worked.

Inside was a package of heat-sealed freezer bags containing nearly 500 grams of methamphetamine — known on the street as crystal meth.
Police then obtained a search warrant and came to a condo Doran leases in Dorchester. Inside, police say they found another 38 grams, along with cash.
Doran’s lawyer says he cares for his elderly mother and is not likely to run.
Match Charter Middle School says Doran passed a criminal background check and has been tutoring kids at the school for nine months.
It is also being reported (http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/television/real-life-breaking-bad-school-teacher-with-cancer-deals-meth/story-e6frfmyi-1226649890912://) that Doran has been undergoing chemotherapy for State III cancer. Don’t think for a minute that television does not inspire criminals. Another episode of Breaking Bad was about the use of ricin to get rid of a rival drug dealer. With news of an arrest, tied to the ricin incidents, that was made on Thursday I would not be at all surprised if Matthew Ryan Buquet ends up being a fan of the show.
As if someone would even bother to ask him that question… Let’s not forget that sweetheart deal that the legislators extended to Hollywood several months ago.
Some things are considered to be best swept under the rug.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – The Pennsylvania State Police have charged a western Pennsylvania judge with stealing cocaine from evidence in cases he presided over before he abruptly resigned last year.
According to police, the charges against former Washington County Judge Paul Pozonsky will be prosecuted in Washington County by Senior Deputy Attorney General Michael Ahwesh.
Pozonsky sat on the bench for nearly 30 years, first as a magistrate and then in Common Pleas Court.

The Associated Press could not immediately locate a home telephone for Pozonsky who last year moved to Alaska and was briefly hired there as a worker’s compensation hearing officer before he quit amid questions about his residency status. A message left on his wife’s cell phone was not immediately returned Thursday.
In May of 2011, Poznosky allegedly began to request that police bring the confiscated drugs into the courtroom. At that time, the drugs would be entered as evidence and then retained by either Poznosky or his staff.
A year later in May of 2012, state police investigators looked at the evidence envelopes and discovered cocaine was missing or had been tampered with.
KDKA’s Paul Martino: “What this looks like, is a sitting judge accused of snorting evidence – cocaine?
Bob Del Greco, Pozonsky’s attorney: “I think that’s a fair representation of the allegations.”
Pozonsky was arraigned Thursday morning.

Martino: “Do you have reason to believe that he has a drug problem? Has he gone to rehab?
Del Greco: “I… I’m really not in a position to discuss with any particularity the allegations now.”
Poznosky is facing a list of charges including, theft, possession and misappropriation of entrusted property.
“This is troubling. This is humbling as you might expect,” said Del Greco. “And it’s a serious matter and he’s taking it as such.”

i don't understand the appeal. it's not like his customers would be reliable people who pay their bills.

in the TV series, although it's entertaining, i don't think it's realistic. given that Walt is a brilliant chemist, why would he continue manufacturing meth when he's had so many bad experiences with the dealers who pay him (sometimes), like 'Tuco' ?

a guy like Walt could go to work for a company like Boardsort.com, where his chemistry knowledge would be essential to harvesting gold and other PM's from e-scrap. there you have a real challenge - how do you extract the gold from a slurry containing 17 different metals and hundreds of other compounds ? not simple.

of course, then you might not have a TV show.

but for this real-like guy, who is not a chemist, why on earth would he deal Meth ?

i can only conclude that his brain works strangely, and/or he had the connections to make it happen. plus he didn't have much to lose.

Meth people freak me out.
