A little pricey no? That's like 60 cents per Leroy.

Yeah no kidding. I think I was paying $175 for a 1,000 rounds or something not that long ago. I think ammo is out pacing gold and silver these days.

Shop around, the prices in the OP are actually pretty reasonable in today's climate.

Back in December my son is frantic and tells me we need more guns and ammo. I said fine, go buy what we need. Now I have two more rifles and cases of ammo stacked to the ceiling. Better investment than frickin silver. My boy has alot of good horse sense.

So what do you think? Manufacturers selling more to the government/military? Switching production away from less profitable calibers?
Where is all the ammo?

My thoughts too. Definitely a good price if you could find it local cash n carry.

Off of the shelves and into storage. Held up in warehouses to maximize profits.
Big stores are still at a two box maximum.

This past weekend my neighbor was selling boxes of .223 at 60 cents a round. I called my brother who's low on ammo and he told me he wont pay more than 40 cents per round. I cant remember the brand but it was brass and it was cash 'n carry. I wanted to slap him through the phone.

I guess he won't be buying any more 5.56/.223 since I don't ever see the prices dropping to anywhere near that again.

We're taking my mom to the range Sunday, and he's not dipping into anything I bring. I wont even sell it to him.

You should have bought it and sold it to him for 65 a round down the road.
I am guessing that you brother doesn't check out what auction buyers are paying. It's been my experience that some people expect to only pay the pre-SH price.
Just looking at gunbroker people are bidding .10 a round for 22, if my math is correct. This price has been going strong since December.
223 is running at +.50 a round.
7.62x51 is running at .70 to .80 a round.
Pmags are still getting 35 each.

He's all about ordering online. I figured I didn't need to explain shipping and waiting. I thought about picking some up, but I have a honey hole for everything I have and that's where that money goes. I have to be able to practice. I also pick up for my mom when I come across her calibers.

You are an excellent son and brother!
I was at Scheels in Sparks, NV. The largest sporting good store in the world. Rifles you could take off the rack and look at, hundreds, thousands of them...In CA, you generally can't take gun off the rack without a guy helping you, they are all behind the counter.
After salivating over everything we can't buy here in CA, I sought out ammo. 2 box limit, per caliber. I picked up 2 boxes of .40 sw for $25 each, and 2 boxes of .38 special, for 21$ each. 50 rounds per box. They had plenty of .380 bulk 100 round packs, but no 9mm. No 22 lr, unless you wanted the expensive match grade.

I can remember buying 223 from walmartian's before the negro-american president came into power for $4.50/box of 20, upon taking office the bubble started, people got worried→started buying like crazy→vendors started raising prices because of the DEMAND→now we're where we're at.....I'm optimistic ammo prices won't stay up indefinitely

now there's 2 reasons to take the trouble to vote at all, and in this circumstance, to vote GOP -
* repeal Obamacare
* good candidate will reverse gun control measures, ammo prices will correct.
other than that ... GOP = Democrats.
i foresee some innovative work-arounds.
for example, a 1/2-13 coupling nut. needs one piece threaded in with the primer.
needs the other end machined out , to press fit a nice big .50 caliber bullet (or maybe bigger).
fill with the right size/mix powder, press fit the bullet.
might need to machine some adapter parts for the reloading equipment.
then you just need a gun that can take bullets that are 3/4 hex Across-the-flats, and about 2 1/2" long.

i keep saying this to my family and friends, and i keep getting bashed for it: the prices you see now will look cheap in a few years time. cheap ammo is not coming back. you better buy whatever you can find at whatever price you can find, NOW. one more shooting like sandy hook, virginia tech, columbine, and it will be all over.

Chad, it takes a good and patient man to try to educate hairless monkeys that cannot understand this dangerous and complex world.

there's going to be a lot more shootings like Columbine & VA Tech. and maybe some like Sandy Hook (possible false flag.)
it's not like Jesus is coming back tomorrow (May 31, 2013) and everyone is going to Chill Out.
