Had a few extra $$$ in my pocket and thought I'd drop it on some Ag.

I walk in and ask if she has any 1oz JM bars.

She says no, but I have two Engelhard bars and a Sunshine mint.

"I'll take them....."

One of them looks old and there's some nice tarnishing. Hope there's more when I go back....

You know someone is a real silver lover when they describe tarnishing as nice.

On a side note..........
Back in the day, when we needed to clean our silver belt buckles, we would use colgate tooth paste and the tarnish would come right off. I wonder what it did to our teeth and guts?

Old tarnish could clue you in to a time before these bars were being faked by the Chinese. I am not buying any new bars unless direct from mints or reputable sources that test the content. There are many fakes and it is impossible to weigh and measure bars for a test. Coins are different since you can know the exact size and weight required.

I also look at tarnish for sterling silverware. Worn spots of plating show a different metal. Even tarnish all around is nice. I will usually only buy on markings, but even they are being faked. People are stamping 925 on item and these are not reliable.
