After saying Starbucks wants to “embrace diversity of all kinds,” he told a shareholder who supports traditional marriage that he should sell his shares and invest in some other company.

According to a report by Forbes, Schultz seemed a bit intolerant of any Starbucks shareholders who opposed gay marriage for moral or religious reasons. During the meeting, shareholder Tom Strobhar (who founded the Corporate Morality Action Center) pointed out that after the company voiced its support for a referendum backing gay marriage in Washington state, a boycott by traditional marriage supporters caused a drop in sales revenue. Schultz told him “You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company” if he did not agree with the company’s pro-gay marriage stand.

Starbucks in Istanbul, has pretty much lost all their business, during the riots in Taksim a week ago, they refused to give refuge to protesters under heavy gas attack from the police. Now Starbucks are fucked!

I like the Starbucks dark roast coffees. No more.

I will find other cafes to patronize. I also roast much of my own green coffee now.

This CEO is an idiot. He's not "embracing diversity", he's booting out all married folks and only welcoming gay people. If everyone in a Starbucks is gay, that is not diverse at all. To have diversity you need to have variety.

Why doesn't he embrace diversity even further, and boot out all white folks, or all Asian folks...

No Gaybucks for me either. This CEO guy must have forgotten that people have a choice where to get their coffee. He's probably counting on the short memory of the masses. His business will drop off until people forget what he said, and then it will be back to normal. I really can't hurt them by staying away, because I never go there anyway.

Even if you don't go there to begin with, you can just inform/remind people about his statement indefinitely into the future.

You also have to boycott their packaged coffee in the grocery stores.

Go with Peet's coffee, it's much better. Peet's coffee should respond.....Everyone is welcome in our shops, even happily married folks.

there's always Peet's. and hundreds of small chains and thousands of individual coffee shops.

it's a little odd that Schwartz would feel a need to make a pronouncement on the issue.

he could have said, "we're a coffee shop, not a church".

maybe this incident will have "legs" and Schwartz will get the boot.
