i wonder if any of the insiders used their knowledge of impending orders of a million hard drives here and a million hard drives there, to load up on Seagate or Western Digital or Toshiba stock.

all the guy writing the spec would have to do is to obtain legit-looking test results, write the spec to specify a particular brand of hard drive, and then start buying that company's stock.

and if they're really sneaky, they could start a rumor that the OTHER companies got the order, to depress the stock price of the hard drive company that actually got the order.

if there ever is a "line for gas", like in the 1970's, the NSA will be allowed to cut in line. they will have priority over US citizens, as will as "Continuity of Government"-related employees.

they will have put a lot of priority on low-power consumption in the server design. also, the NSA server facility itself is one big heat sink. what i mean is, heat management for the servers is Job #1 for a large department. and those guys actually take their job seriously.

for the employees, i'm not sure if they have back-up diesel (or natural gas, or something) generators.

but i am sure they have back-up power sources for the servers, including server cooling.

there are a lot of things the US gov. does terribly. but they are actually fairly smart - most of the time - in the area of thermal management for spy hardware.
