I have finally got to a point in life that I can hit the road whenever the mood hits me. Always camped when I could motels would only be a last resort.
Plus camping to get away from all the noise and shit is a blessing.
Have been rounding up my camping gear and buying what ever I needed for replacement of older in bad shape gear.
This equipment can be use for bug out or for fun camping, which in many ways is sorta the same, but bugout is instant and camping is preplanned. But a good system will do both.
I have replaced my sleeping gear with a better system, cook gear has been upgraded and rebuilt and one stove new. Have two Coleman one 425b stove that is older than most on this forum, plus a 502 bought both run great, Making conversions on both that will let them both burn propane and kerosene and a 424 dual fuel for a grin. Plus the assorted stuff that makes cooking work and a joy or at least will feed you and others.
Have a med kit that can do field surgery if needed but more in the line of keeping someone alive until proper medical care is available and everything between. (had advanced emt training in the past)
There are two ways car bugout/camping or gods two legs. I am gearing up for the car option.
What is your system/kit/setup?

I've shared my setup with the forum, but you can't call it camping. I do like that I don't have to set up camp. I shut off the RV, and hit the river with my flyrod in an instant. Everything in the RV at the point has it's "place", stowed away.
Dogman, have you thought about a light trailor to tow with your travels? Having a packed camper all ready is very easy to just jump in and take a trip. Your mind is your only limitation on things to see and do. Why not have a little comfort with your travels?
Maybe a used one of these, there's lots of different types and options.

http://www.forestriverinc.com/rpod/I have decided to go a different direction. My car is great for stretching a gallon of gas but not so much for towing..But I am still looking into the possibility.
I like camping,
Gets you out into what it is, getting out of a car and into a box that looks the same as anywhere in the world sucks, imho. Camping gets real, one can always clean up renting one or use a lake, river or a gallon or two of carried water.
It is a deeper experience to travel and camp, than rent a box to sleep in....
I am still working on my kit, to make the experience better, (getting old, so need to be more comfortable)

Cheers Dogman. All my true camping gear is made for packing in with a backpack. But, I recently picked up this little BBQ that is just awesome.
I'd recommend adding this to your setup, if you like to grill. Or use as a backup stove, etc.

I admire backpackers, I used to love doing it...BUT I am getting long in the tooth now and things have changed, (my body) from here on car camping is where it is at and will be. I have several grills I have made over the years and one is almost the same as the one at your link, the only diff, is I made mine.
I did a search on this forum and was amazed that this subjut was not covered every way but loose. Guess bunch of wind but not much of real life. Rather stay at home or a rent a box.
I am very close to getting where I want to be equipment wise for loading my car and going and havering what I need to survive and do it in comfort. And this means for all weather and being able to be off the grid and being happy for it.
Working on my camp kitchen, that is the last important thing, arguably the most important thing.

This is one thread I actually feel I can contribute too. Dogman, you think of a trailer/RV as a box. It's not, it is a HOME. I take my portable "cabin on wheels" and I'm home where ever I turn off the key.
It's not fair to call it camping, because I do have all the comforts of a normal home...heater, shower, etc.
Now, if you want to be comfortable camping, from a car, etc, not packing in. I'd recommend a good tent, don't skimp here. Get a quality tent, a dry one, that's not going to fail you. Get a thermarest (air pad) and the most warm comfortable sleeping bag you can find.
Get your camp kitchen right where you want it to be, and you'll be good, imo.

No!
I am going back to basics, open air tent camping but with a twist,
now with a bivy bag I need no tent.
But more important is the experience..
Stay in a box you miss the natural,
Get ready Pete I may haunt your coast.
Open air camping can not be beat, when it comes to everything...

Brother, you are welcome any time out here, would love to have ya visit! I've seen camping on the beach here, get a fire going. If the weathers bad, I'll have a berth on the ol' boat for ya, or you are welcome to the RV too.
I know what you are talking about, about the natural.
What I would recommend, use the bivy sack for when the weather is nice, but also have a nice big tent to set up. To set up if you are going to stay in one place awhile. When the weather sucks, it's nice to have a place to go to, to stretch out with a cup of coffee, if you get stuck inside.
