Strange stuff

A few years ago when I flew to the Phil I was looking out the window at the ground. At the time we were passing over Canadia and I saw lines. We were at about 40K feet. Kind of like the lines on a map. Wasn't a fence but an obvious line that was visible through rivers and lakes just like a map. There was no one next to me so I thought I had too many 1oz vodka samples but this continued for over an hour. Over hills, through water and the line was straight until there was an intersecting line and it would move one way or the other. The line or whatever was not pencil thin but was obvious from the height we were at.

I have never heard of such stupidity but I saw it myself. Nothing on any satellite maps that I can find or videos and I am not exactly sure of the flight path. Anyone else experience anything like this? Just saw a video of a rip tide is what brought this back in my mind. I should just shut up but maybe someone else saw something like this.

can you rule out electrical line, phone line, or gas line ?

i guess it would be hard to see a wire 1" diameter from 40,000 feet. gas line ?


ever try looking in that area on Google Map (Satellite view) or Terraserver to see if the line is still there - or on an aerial photo of the correct vintage ?

What color were the lines? Also how does a rip tide remind you?

It seems like a large electrical power grid line is likely.

@ Vacuum: Would definitely fit the bill but from that altitude it had to be wider or thicker. I do not remember the color, this was in 08. I didn't have a camera or anything so this is almost like talking about UFOs. At first I thought it was a road but then it passed over water and was the same color and width yet didn't seem to change altitude, like whatever it passed through was flat.

@ Hitcher: Don't remember the color, The riptide video reminded me because it looked like a line in the water. This was similar but passed over land too.

@ GunDriller: When I got back I spent many hours trying to find anything like it on Google maps but no luck. Terraserver, I will book mark this one now.
