Nice - IF you have a source of ice in the winter.

Love it.....you can always fill five gallons bucket with water in winter and leave them outside to make the ice and them put them in the "frig".........I'll probably make one........let me think about it.

That is really cool, a very economical solution to refrigeration where there is no electricity. If you build one, the foam insulated shed has got to be as air tight as you can make it - tape all the seams where the foam panels butt up and seal any penetrations (the like doors) with gaskets to seal the air in.
BTW - did you see the unpasteurized milk in the fridge? I hear a SWAT raid coming...

In my outhouse in Sweden, I have an underground root cellar, insulated with sawdust in the ceiling, it never freezes in winter, and it never becomes warmer than 10 degrees C in the summer, what's that about 50 F? I have started storing it with cans of Mackerel in tomato sauce, that says they are good until 2018, but I figure they can last at least for another 5 years in my natural fridge...

What this really needs is an automated way to collect and fill the thing up with ice without much labor and also without the need for super low temperatures for more mild regions.
I'm thinking of perhaps an elongated chute coated with teflon connected to a garden hose and designed for the water to fan out and flow in a thin sheet. Initially it would have a low inclination, but at the point where the water starts to freeze, it has a sharp inclination. That way, the ice slides directly into the container. Or perhaps a clever mechanism that automatically dumps the load full of ice periodically using some kind of lever/balance system.
With this automated method, you could fill 10,000 gallons of ice without any manual labor, just turning the system on at the right time.
