Any thoughts as to which is the better or more secure choice? Other options?

Ixquick appears more developed, i.e., they have an image search while DDG requires code (!image).

I have been using DDG for about a year, rarely do I need google except for images.

I use Startpage which is ixquick I believe, works well for me, I haven't used joogle in years.

If you search "!image flies on leaf" in DDG, you do get an image search.

One advantage I see for Ixquick (and Startpage- the same) is that once you search, you can go directly to the site, or if you hit the "proxy" link, it will take you their via their own proxy server. Of course they get to use that info to serve you ads, but supposedly, this is done anonymously.
