Never saw that one before. There are chemical packets to throw into fireplaces that are supposed to do the same thing. The MIL uses one about every month in the winter.

Sounds similar to this product for diesel engines

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_exhaust_fluid

Sold as AdBlue down here. A diesel additive that consists of urea and delionized water. It is supposed to cause the carbon emissions to be burned up resulting in a lower CO2 reading at the exhaust. So it's liquid. The fire one appears to be something that is not liquid or maybe when hot but I wonder if it produces the same thing.

They are solid until heated and then turn to liquid and give of a gas which helps the fire ect.

Have used them before a few winters back and they work fine, its from Western Australia.

Last 3 months.

Our chimney is blocked up a bit as the wood is a year old but not quite dry .Meant to clean the chimney but takes time for that.

last year I cut about 20 years worth of wood when they cleared 10 kms of trees on both sides of the road near our place. took about 3 months and was enjoyable work but some of the wood was heavy.

Its all box that I got, hottest and best wood in the west,I mean east.

A handful of canning (kosher) salt works fine. Also works great on grease fires.

i thought the basic idea with keeping the soot down is to burn dry wood.

it produces a lot less smoke, which ends up as soot on the walls of the chimney.
