First I heard that a prosecutor had to be instructed to file contempt of court charges. I always thought a judicial actor would just come up with the charge out of thin air.

Burlington man faces contempt count for jury duty outburst
BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A Burlington man faces of up six months in jail after a judge ordered prosecutors to find him in contempt of court for angrily reacting to his selection for jury duty.
Jacob Gates, 20, was ordered into District Judge Cynthia Danielson's courtroom on Friday. That came after the judge was told Gates had made obscene gestures and profane remarks to court employees after he was selected to serve jury duty.
Danielson removed Gates from the jury and requested that the county attorney file contempt of court charges against him. She also rescheduled Gates to appear for jury service next month, telling him that "as a citizen, this is a duty you are required to perform."
