View Full Version : How to Fix Detroit in 6 Easy Steps

For reals, this would do it.
http://www.freemansperspective.com/detroit/
The news is full of stories of Detroit, and understandably so. It’s an unmitigated disaster. But I know how to fix it.
Seriously, I do!
I have a plan that would cost the state of Michigan nothing – not a cent. It wouldn’t cost DC anything either, and it would turn Detroit into the most thriving city in North America. As a bonus, it would give the remaining property owners in Detroit a financial windfall.
Here’s the plan:
-The federal government (in writing) forbears taxes, regulations, laws, and impositions for a hundred years to the area of the current municipality of Detroit and to all persons and commercial entities resident there.
-The government of the state of Michigan forbears taxes, regulations, laws, and impositions for a hundred years to the area of the current municipality of Detroit and to all persons and commercial entities resident there.
-All municipal government agencies within Detroit are disbanded.
-All state and federal offices within the city of Detroit are disbanded.
-The federal government guarantees that entry and exit to/from Detroit will remain unchanged from the current conditions, and that no obligations will be placed upon residents of Detroit in any other place.
-Federal and state governments immediately cease all payments to residents of Detroit. (They may resume payment to those persons if and when they are no longer resident in Detroit.)
The final legal document would be more complex than this, but those are all the main points necessary.
What this plan does is to return Detroit to its natural state – to the way it was managed when the first settlers arrived. (In other words, not managed at all.)
And think of the money that will be saved by Michigan and the feds. Billions per year.
And Then…
And then we have a free for all… and a good one. Think of Hong Kong, but easy to get to.
Businesses would begin to relocate the next morning. Hundreds of them, thousands of them. The people who still owned and lived in their homes would be offered lots of money for their properties.
Libertarians and conservatives, disgusted by the gang in DC, would load up and drive to Detroit. Productive former residents would return. Thousands of opportunity-seekers, anarcho-capitalists, and pot-smoking hippies would be gathering their money and buying property.
Detroit would, within only a few years, become the coolest city on the planet – by FAR.
But, But…
“But there won’t be any police!”
“There won’t be any courts!”
“It will be non-stop murder, death, and mayhem!”
You wanna bet? Do ya? (And you don’t think Detroit has non-stop mayhem already?)
The people who come to Detroit would be coming to escape from their chains and to be productive. These are precisely the kinds of people who clean up a town. And with no taxes to pay for a hundred years, they’d have plenty of extra money to spend on whatever services (security or otherwise) that they wanted.
The Truth
The truth, of course, is that the state and fed guvs will never agree to a plan like this one, for a single reason:
Because they fear it would succeed.
They’ll let every last person in Detroit rot before they’ll let a group of producers live free of their chains.
Detroit returned to its natural state would expose the great lie of the government game – that we can’t survive without them.

Good ideas. But given the indigenous population, Detroit would turn into Haiti - heck, it's almost there now.

I'm not so sure. Haiti has zero capital infrastructure and zero incentive for people to move there to work and be productive, and Detroit, while deteriorating, still has enough capital and incentive for profit that true freedom would attract the very folks needed to build it back up again.

There is another way. It started out as French. Why not give it back to them? What harm could that possibly do?
Detroit
city in Michigan, U.S., from French détroit, literally "straits," from Old French destreit (12c.), from Latin districtum, neuter of districtus. French fort built there 1701. By 1918 the city name was synonymous with "U.S. automobile manufacturing."

Even if all those suggestions are implemented, you have the problem of labor laws and regulations. Would you invest risk capital in a business only to employ whiney litigenous workers-of-color who file a complaint over every little thing? I wouldn't care if the government granted tax amnesty forever. I wouldn't open a business in the US today unless it employed select family members. I don't feel like investing years of hard work only to lose it defending a bogus harassment-discrimination suit. You can't even fire someone today without first compiling a file after months of counseling and documentation - it's absurd!

i think a group of G-S.us'ers & similar survivalists could fix it up.
Detroit = Ultimate Fixer-Upper.
we would need 3 shifts of Armed Protector, e.g. Black Blade or Heimdahl, to utilize their gun skills for management of Mammalian pests. + we would need the consent of the Detroit Police that we have the right to protect our homes.
on each city block there would be a few good fixer-uppers, old Victorians etc.
plus a bunch of scrape-offs.
a city block is roughly 1000 feet x 200 feet - for residential. that's about 2 1/2 acres.
Dogs would help. GoD could be our Doberman Whisperer.
once we were done fixing you would have classic Victorians sitting on parcels of re-claimed farmland with the occasional concrete slab.
then we would need to make it seem "chi-chi", in a Madison Avenue sense, "where all the cool people hang out".
then convince some Silicon Valley person who wants 'out' to sell their $500,000 pillbox, and to buy our city block for $350K.
i bet that could be made to work, as a financial venture - IF we had consent from local government to use our own resources to address the "Wild Wild West atmosphere".

That being said....they'd turn the whole damn city into a prison ie "Escape from New York" before ever, ever, ever letting it happen.

I grew up in Detroit. It was a beautiful city once. It was called "The Paris of N. America"... That was until the riot of '67 and subsequent black-rule. It is a shining example of blacks unable to elevate themselves to the level of whites or even hispanics. You'll never read that in a newspaper though....

it's already a prison.
nothing to lose !
not much downside - if you are allowed to use tools of survival.

It took since the 1950's for Detroit to crumble down to where it is...Imagine a city that is crumbling to oblivion so slow no one really notices. Cleveland has been collapsing since the 1950's...so has Philadelphia...All over the USA there are deflation zones that have been growing for decades.
City states inflate when there is more power flowing in than out and deflate when there is more power flowing out than in.
Think of Detroit as a Gold mine that has been worked into the ground to get every last bit of Gold out.
Unless you put back the gold no one is coming back to mine it.

Utter nonsense.
Yeah, Detroit has been abused and it's a big shitty but it could thrive again if left the means to do so, there are signs of it happening now! It ill happen in countless other places before its over too, only TPTB won't be able to counter act the laws of an open marketplace. Maybe that's the "gold" you were referring to?

Meanwhile the Detroit city council is working hard to fix things:

The City Council, at its formal session on Tuesday, approved a resolution supporting a petition calling for the Justice Department to investigate the filing of civil rights violation charges in the shooting death of black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

"All the perplexities, confusions and distresses in America arise not from defects in the constitution or confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, as much as from downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation."--PRESIDENT JOHN ADAMS
Simplicity adds up to the multiplication of complexity which is then divided unequally and subtracted to obtain the required yield of power the absolute capitalists want to manipulate the Universe how they desire.
No one in that city has an idea where money or credit or even power comes from.
That is obvious.
The city has been taxed into the ground for 6 decades.
There is the supply of power and the demand for power.
Whatever source of power there...Was sucked out faster than it was produced.
The US Dollar was created by decree or fiat in 1792 and it was a measure of silver. But the US treasury did not have any silver to make coins out of when it was dreamed up.
The US Government was in debt 80 Million US silver Dollars to foreign banks in England and France to finance the revolution.
Was the US Treasury built over a silver mine?
You figure out how to answer the above and other questions and you will realize that the city council are just socially engineered puppets with no clue that you install to go down with the ship to take the fall for it all in the end.
You load up all the top positions with clueless patsies that can be scapegoated.
Think of a city like a car.
There are people that know how to make them.
There are people that know how to drive them.
You put morons behind the wheel to drive the car just before they fly off the cliff.
Then you blame those idiots.
Next.

Pretty sure you completely abandon the place and the indigenous thing will take care of itself. No food coming in nor means to do anything about it and they'll just leave or you gather everyone up and ship them elsewhere. THEN you let the producers have at it.
My idea about Detroit came when they passed the medical cannabis law. If it was completely decriminalized in Detroit, turn most of that land into hemp farms and do all kinds of hemp industry there. Energy, composites, textiles, etc...
Personally I think the OP is a brilliant idea.

Detroit is a micro cosom.of what they want to do everywhere.
Corruption is for the most part accepted as status quo
Services are non existent or paltry at best.
Regulation codes and premits effectively crush independant venture
The majority of the population are living on the edge and has little means or willpower to rise up

I was talking about some of the stories that have been posted about the Detroit citizens taking control of different aspects of their communities. From the farmer markets, the guy who started an ad hoc bus service, folks who have kept the parks mowed and security/policing duties etc. TPTB don't like it when it is shown that we do not really need them in order to survive or maybe even thrive.
