That was filmed in my old home town. South Bend, Indiana. Weird how after you move you see your old home town. Especially one not exactly known for being a "hacker" centric place.

In Australia recently we have had a big bruhaha over some apparentl problems with VW vehicles. There were reports of the cars suddenly loosing power and being involved in accidents. Getting rear ended by other cars when they go from 80+kms to 0kms. Eventually media pressure caused VW to do some PR and do a recall for safety checks.

I am a ham radio operator and I drive around with some radios daily. In certain locations, mostly on the freeways, there are places where my radios get swamped by digital transmissons. Totally overloads the radios. These trasnsmissions are coming from Govt facilities, pumping stations, transformer installations, traffic ssystems. That kind of thing.

A lot of these indicents with the VW's are occuring on freeways and the like. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that it is not the manufacturers fault so much as the electrics are being overwhelmed by the radio transmissiosn the vehicles are passing through when they go past these facilties. During the whole carry one some people raised the possibility of hacking the cars. I think this is what happened. The cars got hacked, not deliberately but if you overwhelm something on the internet it is called a DoS attack. Denial of Service. I think this is happening to the cars.

What can be done. Manufacturers need better shielding to their electronics. The chinese don't put any shielding in their electronics. The Japanese do and that is the main difference between the electronics from each country. The level of shielding.
