current market cap, $44 Billion (as traded on NYSE).

not sure how that relates to Euro-denominated shares.

that is a low number for such a large bank.

It is the entire market cap for all their outstanding stock. The fed has given loads of cash, they are on the too big to fail list. We'll see what the Rothschilds plans are on this...

that was how i gauged Washington Mutual's collapse. i knew a bank with $300 Billion in assets, that is was wierd for them to have a market cap of $8 Million.

i had a safe deposit box with them. to keep old hard drives and boating mementoes :)

i got tired of worrying about it. i had to drive to San Diego to close the account, on Saturday September 20, 2008.

they ceased existence Thursday September 25. as it turned out, Chase was given the fresh corpse of WaMu. but i had no idea what was going to happen.

in that one case, my "spidey sense" was accurate, but it was from watching the market cap. when i was standing in line at a bank branch, i would look around. didn't seem like anybody was panicking.

i think i even met with a manager and asked questions a few times. like, "your market cap is down to $10 Billion. you're a big bank. i'm worried. i've been with you since 1975." (i was with Great Western, Home Savings bought GW, WaMu bought HS.)

they said re-assuring type stuff, which i now can see was BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLshit.

anyway, so i was a WaMu watcher because i thought they were going to collapse, and they collapsed.

maybe i will keep a Deutsche Bank window open.
