I've been working on a project here lately. If you guys would like to use it. I have set up a secure Instant Messaging server. SSL/TLS is required (pidgin and GAIM) work well for that type of connection. It is a Self Signed Cert, but if someone wants to donate funds I can purchase one. It works with just about any Instant Messenger client that supports XMPP, yes that includes applications for iPhone and Android. Gibberbot works well for Android Adium for iOS.

Sign up form: http://digitalchaos.no-ip.info:9090/plugins/registration/sign-up.jsp

I have disabled logging on the server. So no communication ever gets logged. Just another means of keeping in touch if you'd like. If not I'll probably just use it for family and friends communication. I have created an account I can be found on there under Aries.

Let me know your thoughts or suggestions.

ChatSecure for iPhone does not work as it will not accept unknown certifications. It's a self signed cert so technically untrusted. The cert just provides a means of having an encrypted tunnel between the client and the server so that the data cannot be snooped. I figured a self signed was better than nothing. :)

Also if anyone does decide to sign up your login information will be as follows:

username - usernameyouchose@digitalchaos.no-ip.info
password - password
port - 5222 <-- if the client ask for it.

Still listed as experimental.

I'm using a server called OpenFire. Stable release. :)

Also with Gibberbot, you can load Orbot and gibberbot will piggy back the communication over Orbot (Tor) to mask even your IP address. :) Just some suggestions.

In June 2013, security researcher Steve Thomas pointed out a security bug that could be used to decrypt any group chat message that had taken place using Cryptocat between September 2012 and April 19th 2013. Private messages were not affected, and the bug has since been resolved.
