Not enough power there yet... but the concept works. Silent.

That's why I call it "space" gun......it would work out there but not down here.

LOL... its not gravity or air that make it slow. It needs far more speed to have sufficient punching power. If it were twice as long, that would do it, but it would be too heavy to carry.

The next step will be multi-dimensional acceleration by multi-layered electromagnets fired by a timer sequence. The photodiodes are too slow to handle this. While position of projectile detection is nice, it won't be fast enough. The tested model will need to go into a carefully timed firing sequence for the coils.

We all know that in space we try to save weight on everything so that what goes into space has only the thickness of what is needed and not bullet proof...... and that's why they are afraid of even an item the size of a grain of sand hitting anything.....the same way that the projectile went into the lap top is the same way that it could make a hole in a space suit of craft........on earth the projectile could go for five miles but in space about 1,000, or for ever.

I think there are a couple of development paths you can go on with this. You can go large. Keep the current form factor for the ammo and just ramp it up length wise. Obviously cannons start looking pretty interesting. Trying to recall what metal storm was all about in terms of tech.

As for a portable weapon it might need some rethink. If the projectice form factor is to be retained then as Spec points out you need more and faster power capabilities in those coils.

If you changed the projectile form factor you could investigate some other options to increase power, momentum and kinetic energy. I think that a ball projectile might open some doors.

I'm envisaging a coil or helix type barrel so that you can propel the projectile over a greater distance without increasing the weapons length. You could possibly increase the barrel path by 30% or more enabling you to impart more energy to it before it leaves the weapon.

So a corksrew kind of barrel. With a helix arrangement you might be able to come up with a double barrel or maybe even link the helix paths so a single projectile travels along one side, then along the other and is then ejected from the barrel.

I think there are other things you could do with this. A semi flexible tube containing the coil component. Effectively a flexible barrel. The alternatives are nothing like a traditional gun form factor at all. It could be a backpack with flexible barrels down your arms. That would give you maybe 2 x normal barrel length, plus some corkscrewing.

It should be loaded with poison acid capsule darts. ()\
