Ok, no shoulder fired anti aircraft missiles from Norinco, check.
As the missiles were put to wider use, rebels began to complain, saying that more often than not they failed to fire or to lock on targets. One rebel commander, Abu Bashar, who coordinates fighting in Aleppo and Idlib Provinces, called the missiles, which he said had gone to Turkey from Sudan and had been provided to rebels by a Qatari intelligence officer, a disappointment.
“Most of the FN-6s that we got didn’t work,” he said. He said two of them had exploded as they were fired, killing two rebels and wounding four others.

really? Clone AA missiles not working as expected?
After the missiles were shown destroying Syrian military helicopters, the matter took an unusual turn when a state-controlled newspaper in China, apparently acting on a marketing impulse, lauded the missile’s performance (http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/767977.shtml). “The kills are proof that the FN-6 is reliable and user-friendly, because rebel fighters are generally not well trained in operating missile systems,” the newspaper, Global Times, quoted a Chinese aviation analyst as saying.
The successful attacks on Syria’s helicopters by Chinese missiles brought “publicity” that “will raise the image of Chinese defense products on the international arms trade market,” the newspaper wrote.
The praise proved premature.

Detailed photos of one of the FN-6 missile tubes, provided by a Syrian with access to the weapons, showed that someone had taken steps to obscure its origin. Stenciled markings, the photos showed, had been covered with spray paint. Such markings typically include a missile’s serial number, lot number, manufacturer code and year of production.
Rebels said that before they were provided with the missiles, months ago, they had already been painted, either by the seller, shipper or middlemen, in a crude effort to make tracing the missiles more difficult.

In the dog eat dog world of arms dealing, its important to advertise. It's clear that the Chinese are stealing some business from the usual culprits so some bad product reviews are required to highlight why you should buy your weapons from one outfit over another.
On the upside it also goes to prove the old adage, no honour amongst thieves.

That and working with technology that you did not invent and can only haphazardly replicate.

Very astute of you to pick up on that. The Chinese have been given technology and tooling for nearly everything. They are not good inventors. They are good thieves. They are good deceivers.
I am pissed that the bastards are probably the biggest counterfeiters of PMs.... in particular coins and small bars. The only better thieves are the banksters... who probably tungstenized a whole bunch of gold.

Technology is like anything else in this world. If you invented it, you know it inside and out and know where you can and cannot cut corners. If you just license the technology for mass production, they're going to try and cut corners on components. Say the plan calls for Magnesium, but Aluminum is cheaper and gets used. Causes catastrophic failure if the other components were designed to work with Magnesium. That's just my piss poor example of a manufacturer cutting corners. I'm sure there are countless others.
Humans are very very good at reverse engineering technology, it's what we've been doing with each others technology since the dawn of time. This license to manufacture is entirely new, and since the technology wasn't reverse engineered, they don't have a full grasp on how it works. Just following the plans and not exactly knowing how something works.
