I have an opportunity to purchase a completed lower, painted and ready to go, for $300. Apparently, the 80/20 loophole is still legal here in CA, no paperwork. Furthermore, I can purchase 20 round mags for $25, and 30 rounders for $30, set to 10 rounds to be legal. All you need to do is punch out something in the mag to make them full capacity. But, they are legal 10 round mags.

Is this a good idea, thoughts? I like the idea of building this tool legally without the hassle of registration, etc. I've done some research online, some folks love the AR, but it doesn't seem the most reliable in adverse conditions. But, the advantage is it's legal currently without the paperwork. The talk is that this loophole may get closed in the near future.

I would say things would depend on what comes with the lower and what company made it.

The mags seem high to me. One might slip over to Nevada for an extended weekend a browse some.

Thanks, that is one question I didn't ask. I'll find out what company and get the specifics.

As far as Nevada, they require ID and it's a no-go for us oppressed here in CA.

I almost did it in CA at Ares Armor (http://aresarmor.com), but moved before I could. They were sold out then. It's a good idea since you can get an unregistered AR-15 this way. If you're a Californian, this is the ONLY way I'd own a semi-auto gun like that.

It looks like they are in stock, so if you live in Southern California I'd go to Ares Armor.

Here in Idaho you can buy all the 30-100 round magazines you want. No ID. They just ask your zip code. Pay in cash. No hassle.

I don't know...you seemed to be impressed with the AK in AZ.

Thanks.

I'm seriously considering doing this. The offer through this guy is he does all the machining on the lower, and I would just "push a button" to legally make it mine.

Now, if I could just get over my programming about these evil guns, I'd be good to go. :)

Yeah, good point!

I just can't decide on this. I don't have the funds, or space, for everything I think I need. Then there's ammo, where to stow that too.

Thanks.
