View Full Version : Cities Make Liberals

Not that it matters, I don't buy the left/right paradigm in politics (I do buy the top/bottom paradigm in politics), but I stumbled onto an interesting explanation of why most American cities are where the 'liberals' live. The people don't make the cities 'liberal'. The cities make the people 'liberal'. I live in one of those cities run by liberals. Here's a link to that explanation, and why cities are concentrations of crime and social decay and bankruptcy:

http://www.wnd.com/2013/08/why-our-cities-are-self-destructing/

I've lived in medium sized cities most of my life, and I had the same 'visceral apprehension' of the Republicans and Democrats that the author had:

Democrats are good, caring people who want to help others, while Republicans are selfish, greedy rich people who just want to preserve what they already have, but don’t care about others.

I made that observation when I was young--as early as my mid-teens. As I got older and more experienced I could see how this visceral sense changed with age. When you're young, you think with your heart. When you get older, your brain starts to take over your thinking. I think the young people I knew who were conservative and republicans didn't do their own thinking and experiencing--they were just parroting what their parents believed. Anyway, I think it is normal to be a liberal when you're young and become more conservative as you get older. Even for people who consider themselves oppressed. That's why I think older politicians--people over 40 who present themselves as liberals are phony and hypocritical and their agenda is to deceive the younger voters into electing them and their hidden agendas. Jerry Brown is an excellent example of this.

I now think that Democrats are naive, idealistic morons for whom anything goes and who want their perversions to be legal, and republicans are seasoned veterans who have been mugged enough by life to know that they need to defend their rights and freedoms in a body politic, and they understand their perversions well enough to not try to make them legal. But I've gone a step further, thinking that it is all irrelevant--because I've become an anarchist and I value my freedom and have transcended statism--which is at the heart of the differences between the republicans and democrats.

The author of the piece I linked to above doesn't talk about the effects of age on political views--he thinks it is living in cities that makes people liberal. Maybe he thinks liberals are 'open minded' which to me means 'inexperienced'.
