Those google images are from 2005. If you go to google maps now the images of DIA are from 2013 now. The same shape is visible The golden portions in the OP are where the main roads are coming in and heading to thecarparks at the terminal building. So that shape is stil there. Just not gold looking. I guess the OP is in the dry season and during construction.

It is a big airport. Major run ways. I would have thought the swastika layout of the runways would have attacted some internet attention. Eitherway it's a big airport. :You can see there are separate areas for the light aircraft, charter flights, bottom right. It looks like maintenance facilities top right. If you gots the space, best to spread out.

On google earth you can see 'vent' holes around the place. Really a messed up place.
