Flatlanders can't handle the forest in fair weather, never mind when things go south. When I'm down the hill at work, my biggest fear is not being able to get back up the hill. I don't want my nieghbors to think I'm an outsider.

Yep! I've always wondered about the same exact things vis-a-vis bugging out. The best chance you'll have is staying on the home base, where all of your provisions, tools, weapons and the like are. If your home base is in a 'disadvantaged' location such as an urban area, you need to relocate to a rural location now. I live on ten acres and would have no problem allowing "bugger-outers" to stay on my land. But frankly, there's not enough to live off of. And there's the small matter of bears and coyotes that frequent the property.

Sounds like bear and coyote soup will be on the menu at Doc's house.

I've got a bug in plan. Plus I'm an 1/8 of a mile from the fire roads that can take me into Mount Wilson if need be.

Bugging out = becoming a refugee (unless one already had an adequate place with shelter and provisions one is bugging out to). Bugging out means light and fast, and must include traveling on foot.

For a change in the menu, head my direction. I'll be eating sea lion. There will be plenty to share with any folks who bug out.

Have you cleared this with the sea lions?

The sea lions are protected, marine mammal protection act. I think this is why they are so obnoxious and impolite to others. In the event where people are starving, I think we could justify having a luau on the beach with a sea lion. All are invited. :)

A similar phenomenon affects certain human minority groups.

the REAL 4 reasons; You were in the wrong place when sthtf. 2, you were in the wrong place when tshtf, 3, you were in the wrong place when tshtf and finally the 4th reason- you were in the wrong fvkin place! geography is the FIRST not the last consideration in survival. i laugh at these armchair warriors living in city/ suburban areas thinking they will be able to reach a safe place....REALLY? i mean REEEAAALY? If your not where your safe to begin with, all your preps are altogether more than useless.

In this current state of economic warfare being waged against us it's not possible for most to meet their family obligations (i.e. provide for their family) while living in the boondocks. I suggest before you condemn others* that you walk a mile in their shoes. (*and this coming from someone who embraces a meme projected by a mega insurance company - oh the irony lol)

QFT ......MR

Alot of people wake up way late in the 4th quarter and if you have fam y it has just been compounded by a factor of 10.

For them unless a winning lottery ticket comes blowing down the street.

Their current residence is The Alamo.

Just do the best you can with what you got and pray that you happen to be on the right side when the hammer falls

Good point.

This is why I'm working on my preps for bugging in.

NO ONE can plan and be prepared for everything but I think staying where you are is preferable to buggin out because it is a known factor, taking yourself into the vast unknown is a prescription for trouble. If you have a place to go and time to get there then that's a different story. Hindsight is always 20-20, staying put, even in the best SHTF locale may be the worst place to be, ya just never know till then.

Be advised, if you ain't LDS then you're an outsider. They may be friendly now, but...

If those Mormons ever find out what you do for a revenue stream I'm betting they're gonna burn you at the stake. lol

It might be a good idea to set yourself up with another identity online, like maybe a Shami-ministry of sorts.

Umm you guys don't get it. I'm prepped for a bug in scenario. I'm saying Mormon communities probably wont break down like other communities will. They have 2 years of food storage typically. If you're plan is to bug in, your biggest threat in a collapse scenario is other people.

I used to run a fake Christian website that got millions of hits for several years. It was a satire though.

Thanks LT. I know Pete is just fucking around, but if Beck and I were to have a live conversation about him blowing the zionist I think this would probably happen.

I'd end up like this.

And Beck's head would explode.

True enough, but since you're not LDS in LDS country you're STILL an outsider, which means YOU are on the OUTSIDE. If you don't address that very real component of the dynamics of your LDS community I think you're likely to be in for a nasty surprise. jmo

Heck General, I would pay money to see you and beck argue. You would make his head explode...and I mean that in a good way. Glad you know I was just joking around with that last comment.

i've bought grain from one of the more established older farmers in one of the Idaho Mormon communities.

among other things, one of the details about his farm - he has a 100,000 diesel tank.

i don't know why, but in my mind that has a stabilizing effect.

also, they didn't treat me like an outsider. i just bought grain, corn, & pinto beans from him in buckets.

personally, i find their lifestyle appealing. it reminds me of the Amish. their food prep habits are very wise.

You know what's crazy GD is that when I was growing up in commie Yugoslavia it was pretty much that way. Now everyone has left the farms and moved to the cities and I bet you could buy 100's of excellent acres of farm land that gets excellent natural rain fall and have a great life for pennies on the dollar.

The newest formulations of diesel have a problem developing fungus. With my 500 gallon tank I had no problem keeping the old formulation in condition for 5-6 years (really light usage here of late) but right now the tank sits empty. I guess once fungus infects a tractor fuel system it can cause some problems with injectors.

Years back John Deere was coming out with an injection system that was said to operate at 25,000 psig. I suppose this pressure would have no problem dealing with fungus.

Add biocide to your diesel. Keep the tank full so condensation doesn't add water for the fungus to live. Full tank, and biocide, diesel should stay good for a long time.

i didnt say boondocks, what point i made and still hold firm is, get the hell out of the cities and suburban areas asap. even if it means driving an hour to work. geography is the first, not the last consideration to make in a shtf scenario. ...imagine a general stationing his troops in the open among the enemy...easy targets just so the supply trucks can reach them easier?? We are the generals of our families...i left the cities decades ago and lived hand to mouth for years, now my grown sons thank me and wouldnt think of moving back.

mad by now you should know that if something big was to take place , their not going to let people leave the citys and towns , plus if you would have to travel thought alot of places were people will not like you and the ones with you . most places i could see having arm group of there own moving around and stopping people from taking what they have .
