Sandy Hook Redux: Shots Fired, Active Shooter Reported At Georgia Elementary School

The DeKalb County schoolboard chairman says a there is an active shooter at McNair Elementary School. Chairman Melvin Johnson said there have been reports of shots fired. There are no reports of injuries.



The gunman has not been located.



News Chopper 2 footage showed children running from the school building.



Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, a charter school, is located on 2nd Avenue in Decatur.

Shots have been fired at an elementary school in DeKalb County, Georgia, according to US media. Children and staff have been evacuated from the building.
Police have suspect in custody, the superintendent of McNair Elementary School in Decatur, Georiga, told AP. SWAT team members and police officers arrived at the scene of the incident shortly after a report of shots fired at the DeKalb County charter school.

Following the reports, TV footage from local outlets showed that children had been safely evacuated from Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy and were sitting outside in a field.
After the evacuation, children – safe, but scared – were loaded onto buses.
There have been no immediate reports on casualties or injuries.

DeKalb School spokesperson Quinn Hudson says all students have been accounted for, and that no injuries were reported.

DeKalb County Police said they responded to a call of shots fired at the Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy on 2nd Avenue.

DeKalb County Acting School Superintendent Michael Thurmond told 11Alive News that the suspect had fired at least one shot, and that gunfire was returned by officers.

Thurmond said multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the operation, and that further details would be made available at an upcoming news conference.

School officials said students are being taken to a Walmart store at the corner of Gresham and Flat Shoals roads, near Interstate 20, to be reunited with their parents. They are telling parents not to come to the school, so as to not hamper the investigation.

DeKalb County police are marshaling the students and working with matching them with their parents.

DeKalb County Assistant Police Chief Holmes says that the suspect was not injured before he was taken into custody. Holmes says police are taking the suspect to police headquarters for interrogation.
Skycam images showed students running from the rear of building while SWAT team members and other police officers, with weapons drawn, were facing the front of the building.
DeKalb School spokesperson Quinn Hudson says that a shooting suspect has been apprehended. Hudson says that when the suspect entered the school, he had demands to speak to a local television station.

Once reports of the suspect came in, the students were taken out of the rear of the building into a field behind the school.

No injuries have been reported.
The school is an elementary charter school in the Candler-McAfee area of unincorporated DeKalb County

I am guessing school uniforms or school colors.

I did some light searching earlier, just searching of the school name, the state, and "school colors". I found one of the same name in Dallas that required either red or grey shirts and like three colors of pants.
