I have a prepping friend who did something unique with his vehicle. Every time I see it, I have to laugh because it's "cleverly funny".

What he did, was take his older model small chevy pickup. He had it professionally painted in camo, a beach/desert tan camo design. It looks great, and more importantly, official. He then had lettering put on the front fenders on both sides. It says US MM (and a bunch of numbers). Such as US MM 24523839. Again, looking very official.

The number is his own Merchant Mariners number. He claims it's now an official vehicle assigned to him, under the merchant marines, and his passageway should not be impeded because he is on official military business.

Now this guy could probably talk his way out of anything, so the idea is if we come under military lockdown, martial law, etc, he is thinking he can move freely about through military roadblocks, etc and blend in with all the other military vehicles about.

Interesting idea.

Good way to get shot. Camo paint screams paramilitary/prepper/lone wolf/white guy with guns. So does all these guys riding around in blacked out late model jeeps. Get an old beater that blends in and has a rugged drivetrain, fuel system, and is easy to work on and get spares for and then load up on spares.

Dang man, I was just searching on EMPing your vehicle and came across this. Good idea and I think you can pic these up for not a boat load of money.

older vehicles are much less susceptible to EMP.

the less electronics, the less susceptible.

there's a guy at the marina in kewanee wis (lake michigan) who did the same with his big boston whaler. he painted it exactly like the dnr boats, and across the back, the boat name reads "wisconsin drn." at first glance, your mind coupled with the paint scheme, messes up the letters and it reads as "wisconsin dnr." you'd swear it was an official wis. dnr boat.

That is what I read all the time too. However I do think that even an older car with a carburateur, might be affected by EMP. The EMP would create an high voltage electric current in the starting engine/generator, and probably burn it, it might be a good idea to keep at least a spare generator, underground or shielded in a lead box or something, if you have an old carburateur car. Horses and bicycles are good too...
