As a former serviceman, basic training is basically a method for sidelining your humanity and your own free will. You follow orders of those appointed over you without question.

I questioned authority, and my military service record reflects it. I wasn't a mindless drone who just did what I was told. My superior officers hated it but I could care less. As my favorite line was "You don't like it? So what, you going to fire me?" That's a little above your pay grade. I just got wrote up a lot. lol

This is the basis of all 'Authority'. The idea that there is something outside of your own conscience that you have a moral obligation to follow. (Which is IMPOSSIBLE) It is directly out of the Prussian Indoctrination System.
