In Orwell’s 1984, the continuing war against the enemy is the lynchpin of the whole society. There is no way to confirm any of the war’s details. All that matters is the mobilizing of emotion.

To put this in perspective: * Pick any year since 1776 and there is about a 91% chance that America was involved in some war during that calendar year.
* No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president. Instead, all U.S. presidents can technically be considered “war presidents.”
* The U.S. has never gone a decade without war.
* The only time the U.S. went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.

I note a lil' sliver of land on the east end of the Mediterranean Sea is neither blue nor red - I'm thinking we should bomb that place for good measure.

"I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.
What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income, to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.
That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics...
I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars. So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president."
State Senator Barack H. Obama, October 2002

As with all such psychology, there need to be rationalizations for insane actions. I could compile a familiar list, but I’ll just mention one old stand-by. John McCain, who has surpassed even Joe Biden in bumbling, mumbling, and stumbling, just voiced it:
“[Not going to war in Syria] would undermine the credibility of the United States of America and the President of the United States of America.”
Ah yes. “Undermine the credibility of.”
In other words, despite the progressive disappearance of solid evidence that Assad used chemical weapons on his own people, the die has been cast. The President has said the evidence is clear. Therefore, the US must attack. Otherwise, no one would believe in our ability to tell lies and back them up anymore. And that would be catastrophic and tragic.
Jon Rappoport
The facts don't matter. The law doesn't matter. Common sense doesn't matter. All that matters is our authority.
Even the mainstream media is reporting that the American people are overwhelmingly against any involvement in the Syrian civil war, and Obama acts like that fact doesn't exist. Ditto for all his appointees and the rest of the single party with two wings. Once again, they are going to ignore the will of the people and show everybody who's boss. Our government has a major case of hubris, and is demonstrating to the world how rotten to the core it is.
I just hope the rest of the world understands that the vast majority of American people are not behind this reckless adventure.
If and when we get into a nuclear war, it should be very short, lasting only a few hours at most--just long enough to destroy the center of power and not too many of the people. I would bet that the 545 people who run the government think they are all going to survive. I doubt that anyone will miss them. Maybe the talking heads in the MSM will, but not many others. And if any of them survive? Who's going to continue following or obeying them? Our biggest challenge will be to survive the local bullies trying to fill the power vacuum ordering us around for our own 'protection' and 'safety'.
Forgive me for trying to look at the bright side of nuclear war.

We used to call this behavior blatant hypocrisy. Now it's called patriotism.
